Giroux and Copp

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2022
Published: Mar. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Byram is back practicing with the team, albeit in a red non-contact jersey. If he returns does that mean the Avs don't go after a Dmen and instead put all their assets towards forwards instead of spreading the wealth to have enough for a Dman as well?

Landeskog is having knee surgery, So he's probably done for the season. Trades look fine. Anton Forsberg probably gets a 4th rounder.

Way too low on Forsberg. One bad game tonight doesnt singlehandedly tank his value.

I didn't realize that Forsberg had a bad game, that's not what I'm basing this on. He's been passed around on waivers quite a bit and is a pending UFA depth goalie, I doubt he has much more value than a late pick.

The surgery is only minor so the early talk is 4 weeks out. Avs could play the LTIR game if they want though, we'll see.

That's good didn't know the severity of the injury. And yeah they'll definitely take advantage of him being on LTIR.

Jets accept, unless they get offered a first.

If they feel like they can go get 2 forwards, I think this is my ideal combo. If they keep the Landeskog-Kadri-Nichushkin shutdown line together in the playoffs, it sets up for Giroux to play with MacKinnon and Rantanen while Newhook gets plenty of help in Burakovsky and Copp.

I’m convinced they’re also going to find a better partner for Girard (when he comes back). Which probably means it would take Landeskog going to LTIR to add a D and two forwards. If they went that route, I don’t think you have to give Jost. Just swap out a prospect of comparable value I’m of the opinion that they are better off subtracting as little as possible from the NHL roster while they make additions.

His numbers are exceptional on a very bad team this season. His value has been on the rise. If he doesnt return at least a 3rd (maybe a 4th) then Ottawa doesnt even consider moving him. He's been considerably better and a million times more consistent than Murray, not to mention he isnt on IR every other month.

Genuinely wouldnt be surprised if Ottawa finds a way to move on from Murray and ride Forsberg out a new deal.

Yeah Giroux and Copp would be my top two targets as well. That top 9 looks rock solid and better than any in the league.

If they do these trades I'm not sure there would be many trade-able assets left to go after a Dman.

As far as Jost and subtracting, if Avs add a couple of forwards it's inevitable that a body or two have to move the other way, not necessarily for cap reasons, but due to limitations of the roster size. You ideally don't want to be in a position where you're having to waive guys like NAK.

All true. Even if they LTIR Landeskog and have that cap flexibility, there’s still a limit to the assets they’re willing to spend.

Jets Decline
LHW Jost isn’t a need and takes up cap space needed for extending RFAs

Doesn't look bad but I reckon the Avs still look for some insurance on D as well. Forsberg's price maybe gets pushed higher due to multiple bidders.

Forsberg will fetch a 4th at the very least if the Sens decide to move him, he's top 10 in goals saved above expected right now.

Forsberg could fetch a first from a desperate team, most likely a 2nd from a non-desperate team looking for depth, OTT declines

That narrative totally worked prior to the 2021-22 season. He's been a top-10 goalie this year. 3rd highest SV% (0.930) since December, just behind Shesterkin and Swayman. Well, it was before last night

According to NaturalStatTrick among goalies with minimum 500 mins payed Forsberg's stat rankings are:

- 16th in GSAA
- 20th in sv%
- 32nd in GAA
- 13th in HDSV%

Pretty solid numbers for a goalie with his caphit, but there's also a 7 year body of work where he has a 0.907sv% and 3.08 GAA. Someone might get desperate given how limited the goalie market is and pay a 4th, but talk of a 1st round pick is just silly talk.

he'll be a lot closer to a 2nd or a 3rd than a 6th lmao
