Could only see that Garland deal being done if Severson outright refuses to extend with the Devils.
If that happens this would be exactly the type of deal I’d want Devils to look at.

Sabres decline. Samuelsson is our best PK already, our best defensive defenseman already, under cost control and part of our future core.

Last thing Sabres need is wingers. Unless they trade Olofsson. And even if they do, wing would *still* be our strongest area.

100% agree. Good take ... probably the only way NJ does that.

I think that Severson isnt really what the canucks are looking for, he's a bit out of the age range, I think that the canucks want someone in their early to mid 20's but nothing older than 25

You can do a lot better than Garland. A 40-50 point winger making 5 million is a bad contract.

Devils decline. We need our top d-man a lot more than another winger.

On the face off it, maybe you're right.
Severson is a fantastic defender, but Devils wouldn't have too much leverage in such a scenario given that Severson would be an UFA.

Also, Garland is a lot better than what his point totals suggest.
His underlying numbers and fundamentals tells of a great two-way acumen, driving play offensively as well as defensively.
I think Garland's contract is great for the value he brings, and would very much prefer him over someone like Boeser for the Devils.
Garland's great.

Garland is overrated. He's a Zach Hyman. A good player sure but reliant on others to produce offensively. You can find a lot of guys who do as well as him for a fraction of the price. He's the same as Johnsson, or Kapanen, or Hyman, Bunting, Kerfoot etc. Not that hard to replace. If they are around 3.5 million or less, it's good value. Anything more than that is an overpay

I don't hate the trade but I agree with you on Sameulsson , I think the Sabres would do that if it was Johnson instead.

Devils rather keep Severson unless he doesn't agree to an extension

His best offensive years came while playing in the dessert, where there were no players anywhere near a PPG. Im curious as to who you think the players he was reliant on for his offence there were…?

He has never been near a PPG and when he did have his best offensive year it was when he was the #1 guy offensively on a bad team. He started off well with Miller this season but he's not lighting it up beyond his usual 50 point pace. For 5 million, I want a lot more out of my player

No he hasn't, and prior to this year neither have any of his teammates. So over the course of his career which players has he been relying on for his offensive stats?
He was almost a PPG player when Green was coaching, his numbers have severely decreased since Boudreau took over, implying that it isn't the players that have had an impact on his stats.

Yeah it's always wise to base someones value over a extremely small sample size. Garland is a point a game player because he did so for a month once. I guess Matthews is the best goal scorer ever because he's scored 30 goals in his last 30 games nothing else matters but that small time frame. Garland is nothing special. Definitely not worth 5 million.

Your twisting my words and avoiding your initial statement. I didn't say that Garland was a consistent PPG player, I said Garland was almost a PPG player under Green until Boudreau took over. This point was made to point out that Garland is not a player that relies on others for his offensive production, as he is still playing with the same players he was when Green was the coach. There's also the fact that Garland is known to be a strong play driver...

You still haven't supported your initial claim that Garland is, "A good player sure but reliant on others to produce offensively". WHO is it that he has relied upon to produce offensively? I would like to see the list of players from Arizona that boosted his offensive stats.

As for Garland not being worth 5 million, as far as I can remember, it was unanimously reported that the contract was a steal for Vancouver.
