he can defend. Has moments (more often against the Leafs for some reason), but is a solid 2 way D on pace for like 50 some points. 6'2 205, way better than Holl in all aspects. Muzz needs a big, two-way puck mover as his partner. I think with Brodie or Muzzin he'd be elite.

It's not like the barrie trade where we got someone who can't defend

Isles need more than that to retain. Varly should be worth a 2nd & a prospect alone, and add a sweetener for that $1.2M retention.

I'd add a prospect. Maybe someone along the lines of Abramov/Villeneuve sounds about right to me.

I heard that reported price would be around a 2nd and 3rd so yea, would prob have to throw something else in for the retention. Idea was that it'd be clean salary in/out moving Mrazek's 3.8M for Varly at 3.8M

yup. Would take a lot of pressure off of Muzzin who has had to carry that pairing for years.

its not 2 A prospects its an A + C + 25 year old bottom pair D + 1st for half retained Severson for 2 playoff runs

Clearly you dont know much about Abruzzese then. He is almost considered untouchable by Dubas per Friedman.

I mean I haven't heard anything contract-wise but if he doesn't want to sign with the leafs this trade makes a little more sense. Niemela would have to be replaced with someone else for this trade to work tho.
