No thank you. Those players don't have that kind of value to a rebuilding team and we really have no room for Vesalainen.

Minnesota declines. We just got jost and don't have any room. Also copp isn't a top 6c.

Oilers pass, Dillon isn't enough of a grab to give up a first and and an A prospect

Dillon is a better Chiarot with term, so if Chiarot got a 1st, 4th and prospect. Dillon should return more then Chiarot.

Considering Chiarot got a 1st/Smilinac/4th with one less year of retention with Dillon being analytically better, this does seem to be the going price

And that was a bad trade. Either way, it's still to much. You're asking for 2 firsts and a 4th opposed to 1,3,4. Oilers don't do it. Maybe someone else will.

Trust me, I agree with you. I watched Chia for years and can’t believe that they paid that for him. That said, that seems to be the market

You need to realize teams dictate the price they are willing to pay. There's zero chance Edmonton ever pays this much because they are not prime contenders like Florida is this year and Florida is in a serious cap crunch after this year so its all or nothing type situation for them. If Edmonton was willing to give up a first and one of their top 3 prospects they would be going after Chychrun Level player or a bonafide #1 goalie because both fit Oilers success better in long term.

Just like what @jgimp69 said, it dosent matter if fans believe that it was an overpay. If the market for a player of Chiarot's level is 1, 3, 4, then a player that is better then Chiarot is going to get more. Think about what Gio or Hampus Lindholm will get, it is probably going to be a lot more.

I'm not staying he's not worth more, I'm saying the Oilers aren't going to pay 2 firsts and a 4th. He's not good enough, he doesn't push them over the edge in terms of Stanley Cup contention to justify giving up 2 premium assets. There are other teams that might pay close to that but it won't be the Oilers.
