Description
An idea for Carolina to get a defenseman, like they are rumored to want, and one that fits what they usually like. From my understanding Crouse fits a need. With Florida and Tampa Bay gearing up I'm curious to know if Canes' fans feel the need to do something at the TDL. Even if Ekblad's injury is short term from the looks of it, this is a chance to maybe get ahead.

Trade breakdown is Chychrun for Jarvis, Morrow and 1st. That may seem rich to some. I don't think it is, but to help ease that it is a 2nd and Rees for Crouse, instead of a 1st +. Then a 6th to offset the loss of the 1st. Cole to save some cap and help the value.

Feel free to give some thoughts to it. I wouldn't mind adding some picks from Arizona if that's necessary.

Probably one of the better Jackob Chychrun trades we've seen on here.

Might be a bit of an underpay, Jarvis + 1st + Morrow is a pretty fair return for Chychrun, I don't think a 2nd and Reese get's Crouse though.

Considering how highly valued Jarvis and Morrow are to the Canes, I don’t really see this happening. Canes would be willing to move other prospects instead of Jarvis and Morrow, like maybe Heimosalmi and Koivunen/Gunler, and add in Ponomarev and Suzuki and the Canes would be closer to agreeing. But as far as the Canes are concerned, Jarvis and Morrow are untouchable.

I mean when you’re talking about Chychrun I can definitely see how you could view this as fair but Jarvis is becoming a staple of a winning lineup and he’s cheap right now. You can’t find these guys available for teams on the hunt for a cup.

So while Chychrun would be nice, and maybe some people see this trade as fair, it just won’t happen IMO

Yeah, I think so too, but it's quite the haul and at some point we can't ask for too many assets or we're never trading Chychrun. I don't want to include Crouse since we're "losing" a 1st, but I think it helps offset the loss of Jarvis for Carolina.

I understand that, thanks for the info. That's also one of the reasons I included Crouse, because adding him should make it a little easier losing Jarvis.

Thanks for the insight. I see why you and the Canes wouldn't want to lose them, but you have to give to get, especially for a player like Chychrun. I can't see it happening if those aren't a part of the deal. In the end that's probably why this isn't happening, though.

Personally I think if both are sold they are moved separately. I feel like Kessel will be moved with Chychrun and they keep Crouse

I think this is probably a fair ask but I can’t see canes moving Jarvis and to a lesser extent morrow. Jarvis is on a cheap contract and has fit into the lineup excellently. Morrow the canes are really high on morrow as well, but he could be moved. I would move pretty much any prospect other than Jarvis but that may not be enough from a coyotes perspective

Necas probably more available than Jarvis. Really doubt the Canes move Morrow or Jarvis.

Jarvis is out of the question, as is Morrow. I'd imagine you're more likely to get Necas and Heimosalmi. Crouse is an extra. Carolina don't need him, he's not going to get major playing time in Raleigh as it is. Arizona would also need to swallow the contract of Gardiner so Martinook could go onto LTIR and they become cap compliant without giving up more roster pieces than they have to. I also think the value here is ridiculously overpriced, especially considering Chychrun can't play right now. He's hurt. He can't slot into the lineup Sunday against the Rangers or Tuesday against Tampa. Subtracting all this for someone who won't be there to help for at least another 10 days? No thanks.

That surprises me. I'd much rather have Necas if possible, but figured he'd be the absolute no go.

I'd much rather have Necas so I don't mind switching him with Jarvis. The value is favoring the Canes. That's just what the market dictates. The value of Chychrun is in the fact that he has 4 more years left on his contract. If he misses 3 games is a minor concern and doesn't affect his trade value. I also wouldn't mind taking Gardiner instead of Cole if it means Necas, Morrow and 1st.

I agree 100%. For this purpose I just think Crouse makes more sense. But it's just me messing around and having some fun.

If you think this value favors Carolina, look at the Canes a little closer.

Morrow is an instant no too. He's developing at a rate similar to Cale Makar did at UMass. No one is saying he'll be as good as Makar, but no one is saying he's not going to be as good as Makar... so he's very much out of the question unless it's like... Morrow and a 2nd. You won't get any other major pieces if Morrow is going back. He's WAY too valuable to Carolina.

It comes down to age and control…Jarvis is multiple years behind Necas in age progress and team control via RFA but honestly they are basically close on the ice right now.

Neither is likely, but if Chychrun is the return…Necas makes more sense for both sides.

Yeah, in the end this is just fun and games, but if there was even a remote chance of getting Necas for Chychrun I'd jump on it immediately.

I did when making it and figured if I should add anything more from Carolina, but decided to compromise. I also like Morrow and think he is very likely he becomes a top 4 guy, but comparing him to Makar is farfetched. He is one of the best in a long time.

You are thinking about this as Morrow today vs Makar today…which is incorrect. You need to think about it as Makar as a freshman at UMass vs Morrow as a freshman at UMass (now). They are on similar projected curves. What would it look like if the Avs had sold Makar in his draft +1 year?
