This would be next season with no restrictions anymore.

DET fans will tell you that Leafs is the one adding. Quite considerably to boot.

Lets see.

Ppg is a wash.

Bert has the better contract in an era where cap is a massive premium but one less year of term. Both are UFAs.

Hard to see what’s out of balance really. I think it’s close to a 1 for 1 without a lot of addition on either side - assuming bert can play in Canada with no restrictions at the time of trade.

The fact that toronto would be getting retention on bert makes me feel like they’d need to add. It’s basically like getting a William Nylander for ~2.35m.

I don't see why Detroit should be the team adding. We're the ones helping you out with you cap problems not the other way around.

I get that the contract makes it look amazing, but I think the wings add a little due to willy having more term.

not quite, because berts contract would be up at the end of the year and will want a big pay raise, whereas atleast willy still has a few more years at just under 7mil

People got this a little wrong. I'm not looking for like a detroit 1st rounder or something. I was thinking more like a 3rd rounder or some prospect of that value. Just didn't know much about detroits prospect. Think the trade is honestly quite fair.

I'd say negotiate an extension with Bert before the deal and then its a straight 1 for 1

You're getting 4.5 million in cap relief and want Detroit to add?

Also losing a year of a top 10 RW. Bert (50%) and a 4th for Willy does that work for you?

No.

Both players score the same. Bert plays PK (and he's good at it) which Nylander doesn't. Bert is better at hitting and blocking shots than Nylander is.

I wouldn't trade them 1-for-1 without retention.

Note also that Fiala can be offer-sheeted for a 1st and a 3rd and Minny doesn't have the cap to match.

Go ahead and offer sheet Fiala and give up an unprotected 2023 1st see how that works out for you
