The habs don’t really have a choice in the matter. They have to continue rebuilding because they’re bad, and don’t have the pieces to be good.

Gallagher, Hoffman and Petry all have term and are on the wrong side of 30 (or soon to be) and already declining production. Those contracts will cost you to move on from, especially Gallagher. If he starts with the Habs next year and seems on track again for 30/20 type season you might find a GM dumb enough to take on the declining side of his career for something but i wouldn't bet on it.
