It's amazing to think that pro athletes, and I'm thinking of two of finer players in the 70s and 80s, Bossy and Lafleur were smokers.

I had the indescribable pleasure of seeing every game Mike Bossy played in the NHL, including celebrating every one of the 85 goals he scored in the Stanley Cup playoffs, including hte one he scored while three feet off the ice and parallel to it.

He and Teemu Selanne were the two greatest right wings I ever saw.

I am heartbroken, and wish I had the words to describe what a loss this is.

An absolute legend, probably the best Islander to ever put that sweater on. Averaged (AVERAGED!) 57 goals a year for the ten seasons he played. Had to retire at 30 because of his back, and you always wonder what might've been with him - of course he accomplished so much (4 Cups and the Hall of Fame is pretty darn good), but imagine if he had been able to retire by choice instead of being forced to by injury. Not saying he would've passed Wayne's numbers, but even a handful more seasons probably gets him over 800 goals for his career.

Cigarettes were advertised as being good for your health. You can still find some of those ads on YouTube. Back then everyone smoked. I don't think there is a single scene in Ghostbusters where someone isn't smoking.

Bossy and Mario are two players that absolutely could have passed Gretzky had they not been robbed of so many games due to health problems

The only players I am sad to say never put on a Habs sweater are Mario and Bossy. It was a pleasure to see him play. Gone far too soon. RIP

Bossy could have been drafted by us as well.
