NYR have an easy decision there.. no.. they will just resign Copp or Strome than give up that many assets for one of the most defensively deficient centers in the league.

Isles say no, and that's even if they get to that point without Wheeler pointing at his NMC. Wheeler is a fine player still, but he'll be 36 at the start of next year and I don't like the idea of moving one of the handful of under-25 forwards the Isles have for a guy more than a decade older, even if you can retain his cap hit down to more or less matching it.

But the biggest reason why they wouldn't want to trade for Wheeler is that they need finishers. Right now, the only goalscorers they really have are Brock Nelson & Anders Lee. Beau has shown a spark before as a potential 20 goal guy(scored at a 20+ goal pace the last two truncated seasons before having his shooting percentage fall off a cliff this season) and trading that for a guy whose main strength is playmaking, not scoring, isn't necessarily going to help the Isles' scoring difficulties.
