They could probably could find a team willing to pay more than this, it's true. But from my perspective, this is a deal that works for both sides-Middleton really looks like an NHL-ready defenseman, his game's a bit raw but solid, kind of reminds me of John Marino, and they get a couple of picks as well. Wild get a solid but slightly overrated D-man IMO who can be stupid and careless with the puck at the most inopportune times. (Playing with Hedman will help your numbers.)

Minnesota has no need for him. Nor the cap. So we will keep our picks and jacob Middletown. Minnesota's d is among the best in the nhl with spurgeon and Brodin. Minnesota sure as heck won't trade Middletown whose been amazing and cheaper. So with all due respect, it doesn't work for both sides. Your reasoning lack Minnesota's need , and doesn't make any sense for wild to take on player who will be expensive to resign

helluva lot more than that lol. Am I missing something? I feel like Sergachev is probably a top pair guy on a lot of teams, definitely a #2/#3 guy, unless he's had some sort of major regression this year? And he's also only 23. Like, he's got one more year at a very nice cap hit, and then someone is gonna want to lock him up through his entire prime, I feel like some team would pay very highly for that (maybe the Ducks or Kings, they could use a top pair LD). Surely worth a 1st+top prospect at least

Fair. This is a bit of wish fulfillment, bec. I'm high on Middleton, and want to see if the Lightning can get a solid return for Sergachev.

Its not a terrible trade I dont think as you get another Defenceman back who should be a bottom 4 defender aswell as a 2nd and 3rd. my initial thought was Sergy is still fairly young you could likely fetch a 1st easily for Sergy straight up which could better value even just as a trade chip. That said from my limited perspective on Middelton as a depth defenceman, could be off there.

Well it would be another team. Minnesota didn't trade Kaapo kahkonen for Jacob Middletown, whose been amazing as 1st pairing d with spurgeon and cheap to trade him

Very quietly it's been another smart move by Guerrin, got a solid young piece in exchange for a player they didn't need anymore. I think he'd be open to trading him for the right price, but I can't help but agree on second thought that the cap hit probably kills this one. (BTW, it's MiddleTON, not MiddleTOWN, unless that's an inside joke that I'm missing)

I mean he's a special kind of restricted free agent whose been damn good on 1st pairing. He's talked openly about loving Minnesota and wouldn't cost much to resign. Guerin loves these kind of players and don't see him going anywhere

2nd, Johnsson (50% retained), and Walsh?

The question here is whether Guerin would be willing to give him up for an upgrade-there's no doubt that Sergachev is better. The only thing that makes this a question mark is the cap hit. Middleton-so far-has been a quality player at a fraction of the cost. Don't think it's entirely unrealistic, but I hear your point.

Don't see the Lightning having interest in Johnsson, even retained. If it was a 1st+Walsh, they'd take it in a heartbeat.

The cap makes it impossible. Yes , mikhail is better but more than anything he provides size along with being cheap which has made even spurgeon and Brodin, two of the best d in the league better, so Minnesota has no need for a d who would be #4d behind spurgeon, jacob Middletown, brodin, and unless dumba is traded, which it seems he's not, we don't have any need for d needing an extension

Id say of the 3 big RFA's he would be the one to get moved, he can easily fetch a high 1st and a really good prospect

For sure, but I think Middleton is the type of guy JBB loves (was hoping the Lightning would get him at the deadline), plus Sergachev only has one season left before he becomes an RFA in 2023

There would be quite a lot of interest in him if he hit the market. I would be very disappointed with this return

He could definitely fetch more, but I'm high on Middleton, and Sergachev only has one year left before he becomes an RFA. But if a team offered a better deal (say, if the Devils offered a 1st+Walsh), take it ina heartbeat.

Devils are loaded on LD players/prospects. They won't be the team making an offer. I could see NYI, LA, or Anaheim definitely calling though

Alex Turcotte or Gabe Vilardi, Sean Walker, and LA's 2022 first-round draft pick. But if you're concerned about Walker's injury, we would substitute a prospect like Jaret Anderson-Dolan or Helge Grans.

Middleton definitely fits the latter half. The question is whether JBB would be willing to take a 2nd & 3rd instead of a 1st, was trying to not be biased
