Dump negative assets lean into youth

Created by: smokewiseganja
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2022
Published: May 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The jets have the most crucial part of a stanley cup winning team, a top 5 goalie who can steal a series. They need to build a good culture and ditch the toxic players that are complete garbage defensively (scheifele wheeler Morrissey) or they are going absolutely nowhere. This can be done without a full rebuild. They could be in the playoffs next year easily with a retooled roster.

Even with retention, Detroit wants nothing to do with Wheeler

Sorry Gally already said he was going to be back next season, Montreal is not trading him if he wants to stay.

It seems to me that jets fans are the most uninformed about their players worth. I would be happy letting all 3 of these guys have their contracts wiped immediately as an oilers fan. But instead you actually get meaningful assets. If these happened you should be thanking whatever deity you worship

Because nobody has ever said they want to stay and then gets traded.

To the wings maybe, because yzerman isn't a ****. But i have a feeling someone out there is very willing to pay for Wheeler

He holds a NMC if he says he is staying, it is damn near impossible for him to be traded

2 more years at over 8M is tough for teams to absorb. can't say you are wrong, I'm also only saying it will take something to dump him if going to wings, not league wide

With retention it's reasonable, especially for a team with tons of picks+cap

That's fair and I doubt he'd go to Winnipeg, except for the allure of possibly making the playoffs since that probably won't happen in montreal

It is just as likely to happen in Montreal as it is in Winnipeg LOL. That being said neither team is in a position right now to be thinking playoffs next season anyway.

Reread the comment, I literally said we are not trading him if he doesn't want to be traded. We technically can't anyway since he holds a NMC, Since Gally has already said he is coming back next year and hopes to get back to his usual numbers it is clear he is not waiving.

Montreal set a record for man games missed due to injury this year, the next closest this year was like 160 games behind that is equivalent to 2 full seasons worth of man games lost. IF we had had a healthy roster and MSL for a full season we wouldn't have been 50 points behind. More likely we would have been the 9th place team in the Eastern Conference.

That's omegacopium man. It was very obvious coming in they were a bottom 10, maybe even bottom 5 team when healthy. It's just not a good roster to begin with.

That is true. Some people think two years of Scheifele will get 4 1st round picks and 3 top prospects

well it makes sense if your an oilers fan you like other teams top players to have their contract wiped out.

Detroit declines. Wheeler will be 36 years old when next season starts. He has 2 more years left at $8.25 mil AAV. No thanks.

Morrissey had a really good bounce back year IMO I dont see any reason to get rid of him at all. Wheeler will cost money or assests to get rid of so can you replace him for 4m a year I don’t think so the jets are much better off just cutting his pp time and playing him on the third line around 14-15 mins a night instead of 20. If scheifele wants out chevy will find a way to make that happen but I could see him waiting till the trade deadline next year to find the right deal. Schmidt needs to go as much as I like him off the ice that 6m can be used elsewhere

As much as the Flyers need to move from JVR, they aren’t trading Sanheim to do it. They’ll buy him out first. Plus, they may draft an NHL ready center by pick #6 (lowest spot they can pick). Couts, Hayes & Savoie (?) down the middle while keeping Sanheim maybe buying out JVR, is better than that trade
