What proof do you have that Necas > Garland?

Why does Vegas take Ferland in a deal they wouldn't make??

Until Kuzmenko is signed, Vegas, also on his short list, can still sign him. That makes their off season pretty easy.

Maybe the part where they just don't re-sign him and go all in on the cup again with their core aging.

Desperation can result in strange deals. McPhee is on the hot seat if they don't do some damage next year. Wouldn't be the first time a team makes an all in move on one season.

EDIT: also the way Vegas is, if they like Miller enough by the end of the year then they will just move out a guy like Karlsson or Pacioretty so that they can extend Miller.

The way I see it. Necas had an underwhelming season for Carolina but still a good young player. Carolina at times have had issues scoring at 5on5 and are a team that really values analytics. Garland has some of the better 5on5 points in the league including a lot of primary assists.

It's a trade that could make sense for both teams. Both players are 2nd line guys even though some fans of both sides will likely argue that player X is worth way more than player Y. Objectively it's close to fair value with potential for minors additions on either side.

K why? Dadonov was strong for Vegas down the stretch and better than Kapanen was this year. He is also at minimum 700k less than Kapanen when 50% is being retained.

Kapanens value is about that of a 3rd rounder right now. I'd say Dadonov at 50% retained is worth roughly the same.

Agreed. I think Necas has better defensive capabilities than Garland and still hasn't reached his ceiling in that department, but I don't ever see Necas reaching the 5 on 5 scoring numbers that Garland is able to produce

Theodore won't be traded. Yes, others have NTC, but if you're a team who wants to be competitive, which Vegas does, you don't trade your best defenseman.
