Matthews

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2022
Published: May 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Every Center has a Positive Faceoff Win Rate including Nylander
Kampf/Spezza will handle bulk DZ Faceoffs
Tavares will handle most NZ/OZ Faceoffs
Nylander will handle primarily OZ only where he's strongest

TML has Logan Cooley and their 1st round selection in 2022 to develop
They also still have most of their depth prospects in tact still
While adding a top pair RD who's just 23 and is only 2nd to Reilly on D as it should be.

They lost a 1st tho 2nds and a 3rd along with Matthews
But got 1st , two 2nds of which one is a conditional 1st, two top 4 D under 24 with a LH & RD shot, A gritty 4th line RFA goal scorer and a KHL Prospect who's 23 in his 2nd year Pro.

Given the potential return for a Pending UFA Chycrun in a few years
This package stands to fill all TML needs both long and short term
Goaltending might take a bit to nail down but i still think none of Campbell,Mrazek or even back to Anderson were at fault for TML poor Defensive consistency

This is the deals i could make work where netheir party loist their shirt and both got quality.
Could Matthews get a bunch of 1st's in the later rounds from contenders willing to pay
Sure 100% but you wont find the same value there

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
  2. Crouse, Lawson [RFA Rights]
  3. 2022 1st round pick (ARI)
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (ARI)
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
-3rd OA pick TML uses to Select Logan Cooley Aka Matthews Lite
-34th OA and TML 2023 1st are trade for Durzi to fix their RD longterm as only Reilly produced at a higher rate then Durzi as a Rookie on a team who cant afford him with tons of RD depth

-Conditional 1st if Matthews wins a playoff series by 2024 draft.
If not it stays a 2nd round pick

-Chyrchrun which i dont have to sell TML fans on given the amount of trades on here for him.

-Crouse is a Cheap and Effect RFA who is your ideal 4th line goal scorer who plays with a Physical Edge

With TML still being able to sell Chychrun for a ton if he chooses to leave when his terms up so this is a pretty hefty package.

Remember TBL had to Trade Miller for Cirelli to Emerge like he did and they won 2 cups after moving out the better player putting the overall team first
ARI
  1. Matthews, Auston
Additional Details:
ARZ gets their hometown Messiah
He'd help ARZ compete but more important attract players
More of their talent will benefit with Matthews/Keller leading
2.
TOR
  1. Durzi, Sean [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Durzi was less then 30 seconds off leading LAK in Ice Time just behind Anze Kopitar in the post season. He jumped out as a rookie with 27 points with 3 added in 7 playoff games while being a solid top line option just as he's owed a Contract.

LAK can afford to pay him nor should they want to as its more profitable to move him out then to move Doughty or Walker. More Importantly Jordan Spence and Brandt Clarke are going to make a big push at camp and will only be held down another year at most

Doughty is still around 85-90% production rate playing big minutes so moving him makes no sense on any level. Walker and Roy could be move but in making room for Durzi committing to Doughty/Durzi you've put Spence and Clarke in the same position to do this to Durzi in a year.

It just makes more sense to go with Doughty/Walker/Roy until Walker /Roy are pending UFA or close that way you can sell high getting even more on top of what you landed for Durzi
LAK
  1. Abruzzese, Nick
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
TML gives up a lot but not since Larry Murphy have they had a RD worthy of top line status on a Championship team. Murphy left and won Cups plural. TML has to learn to put value in its RD even if it means paying for it to make them a Contender
3.
TOR
  1. Foo, Parker [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CHI)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
If Muzzin plays 1 or more playoff games for CHI before the 2022-23 draft then the 3rd round pick becomes a 2nd.(this covers TML if CHI trades him next TDL)
CHI
  1. Muzzin, Jake
Additional Details:
Its not a Huge return but TBH his injury issues are the problem with him getting anything more at his cap even with 50% RS in 9/10 cases.(the exception being willingness to take a dump back which TML is not but CHI might be)

Foo is a 2nd year KHL player at 50% production rate who's 24 in his 2nd year out of the NCAA. I think if you leave him in the KHL another year he'll come over an NHL ready 3rd line play. Whether he'll be bottom or middle 6 is yet to be seen

Toronto would be foolish to trade matthews ever, but let alone for that.

I would want 4 unprotected 1sts and more for him.

Sure thats way cheaper
Last time i did that post i could pulvarized by about 50 posts in 20 minutes telling me to delete my account for being so stupid for offering 4 late 1st round picks as that's what they'd become if Matthews joins 9/10 teams

I firmly believe Matthews isn't going to re-sign in Toronto so get what you can and move on, but again, just my opinion. You can absolutely get more for him but I liked your explanation and breakdown of everything. Also keep in mind, everyone gets **** on for their trades. It's either way too much, or not even close. LOL

There is a Matthews to Arizona trade and I honestly think this is the year for the Yotes to try if they want to make this happen. They have a few appealing players as well as 7 picks in the first 2 rounds (including 3 first rounders). For everyone saying Matthews commands much more, perhaps, but you also have to look at the market for someone making 10.5M a season and what teams can effectively take that on without crippling themselves.

Yotes could offer all their first round picks this year and a player/prospect and Toronto would at least have to listen.

You lost me at the Muzzin trade.

To many miles on those wheels, and I think you're looking at a limited marketplace of teams that would offer a 2nd, let alone a 2nd, 3rd and a prospect. Not to mention Muzzin doesn;t waive.

I can't see us trading Durzi unless it's for an equivalent LD prospect or a top-6 forward. A future first and a B prospect at a position where we have 7 guys ahead of him just doesn't cut it.
