Has there ever been a sign-and-trade in the NHL? Didn't they try that with Zach Hyman, but EDM didn't want to compensate TOR for the reduced AAV that EDM would be getting?

There may have been a few but it’s extremely rare. It almost never happens.

The AAV part still applies. I thought the object of a sign-and-trade for the player would be for him to get that 8th year, and for the team to keep the AAV lower over the duration of the contract, which he isn't getting in this case. I also doubt we'll see a trade between the two division rivals.

My idea is so the Jets know what they are getting into with a contract before giving up Perfetti
