Unless he wont sign a long-term deal in Calgary you are not getting Tkachuk for Marner straight up.

I don't think Calgary trades him unless he is not planning to sign. I also don't think Calgary will get the value of a Marner in any other deal.

If he doesn't sign Calgary would basically have to re-build because Johnny Hockey would be gone as well. My guess is that they would be looking for an Eichel type deal at the point with a mix of high-end futures and a really good young roster player.

Why Muzzin won't come to the Kings.

    Leafs:
1.) He has a NTC and dicatates where he wants to go
2.) He lives in Toronto, in Yorkville with his family
3.) The Leafs are fully going for it this season, while the Kings are just starting their compete window, he might see Toronto as his best chance at winning a cup.
4.) He holds the cards and will dictate where he wants to go, with the Leafs needing cap space, they have no negotiating strength and would likely get little to nothing and get weaker defensively

    Kings:
1.) Kings moved on from Muzzin and rarely move backward towards players they traded away.
2.) The Kings are still in on Chychrun, this trade kills them being in on a younger player with a better contract.
3.) Doughty and Muzzin never played as primary partners and he didn't play under McLellan.
4.) After the Kings immense amount of injuries to defensemen they will be looking for players with less injury history
5.) Muzzin has suffered several concussions
6.) Muzzin was traded away to get younger, why would they go back when they aren't even a sure thing for the playoffs next season?

One pick difference between Eichel and Tkachuk is that Eichel has over four years of Vegas control when he was traded. Tkachuk one year. Tkachuk's trade value isn't nearly as high

It makes sense for Anaheim and Toronto to exchange Stolarz for that package because Mrazek is a cap dump, Kerfoot is an expensive bottom-6 forward and Robertson is looking more and more like a bust, but the Ducks wouldn't add Shattenkirk and the idea that we would trade Gibson for that junk is silly. Either you believe that John Gibson solves your goaltending problem for the next five years, or you don't. If you do, then this package of four essentially useless-to-the-Ducks elements doesn't get him. If you don't, you don't bother trading those virtually useless spare parts for him.

Any team interested in Tkachuk would certainly be given permission to negotiate with his agent beforehand
