Eichel is more valuable than Kane. Younger, cheaper, more premium position, equal ceiling. Nope

How exactly do you plan to poach Parayko? I see no compensation if it was an offer sheet. Any offer sheet would be matched. Blues would put Parayko in a body bag rather than see him in a Hawks sweater.

Here is my frustration with the naysayers for trades like this. Kane is a 3x stanley cup champion in the prime of his career. I'm sure that has no value to a young team? I get it. cap issues, younger, cheaper, all that, and it may well be valid; but to just say I'll go with the young dude all the time is silly. Just my thoughts.

That's the question right??? Jack Eichel's BEST CASE POSSIBLE hope is to be as good as Kane is now. That's not an exaggeration either! But $10.5M in cap gets you many different quality supporting pieces and 8 years of additional play are very much a factor. Typically the argument is the best player in any trade is who wins the trade, but this a very different type of trade.

Sorry, didn't realize you'd need to see the compensation since it would be an offer sheet. Feel free to assume it'd be the standard compensation for signing a player to that term. It's great to think the Blues would match the offer sheet, and I'm sure they would, but they'd need to make a few ancillary moves to stay under the cap. I believe they're already at $71M for next season.
Relax, in real life teams don't really make offer sheets on RFA's, and if a GM hears inside info that it might happen they trade the rights like the Blackhawks did with Saad.

It's very much a question if Eichel reaches that ceiling. It's not like Matthews or McDavid where it's already obvious. I did make this fun trade under the thought that Buffalo has cap space, the previous plan that included Eichel wasn't working so far & that got the GM fired, they'd like to make the playoffs, and the hometown Kane gives them a draw & immediate improvement.
Kane is still in his prime, btw. He was tied for scoring when he injured his shoulder in 2015, won it in 2016 and was tied for 2nd this last season.

Agree, If I were the Sabers, given their status, I probably would not do it either, but if I was one or two pieces away.....?

I'm sorry but Eichel does not have an equal ceiling to Kane.

Im sorry but there is not a chance a rebuild team takes on a player at the back end of their career with a cap hit like that, to replace one of the most promising young prospects in the league. Not a chance. Ever. Nope.

and @ OP, St. Louis would match any offer sheet given to Parayko. Your cap problem is going to stay a problem for the foreseeable future. You guys had a great run and it was the closest thing to a dynasty in a long time, but that time is up and you are officially in the dark ages before a rebuild.

Sure, of course in real life St Louis matches an offer sheet, and no offer sheet is really made. I think I already said that above. The Blues do have their own cap issues this offseason too. They have some tough decisions ahead.
Kane is actually in the prime of his career still and barring injury will likely remain one of the top forwards for a few more seasons.
And yes, I do know that the Blackhawks will be in cap hell for a few years to come. I don't think the window is closed, but they have to get a little lucky with a few more prospects or international signings

Its funny how i made absolutely no statement about the trade itself there. No response to the overall value of each player or what they mean to any team.
I simply stated that Eichel's ceiling is not where Kane's is. And I'd say that 90% of hockey fans would agree.
