Don't think this is enough for TOR not to match. Yes, it will complicate their cap situation a little bit, but they'll figure it out.

A made a post earlier trading Nylander so the Leafs could sign Liljegren to 4.3m, four year contract to avoid the offer sheet problem. (I'm still not convinced Liljegren is offer sheet eligible). But I get a lot of criticism from Leafs fans for trading 7m Nylander with nocap being returned to the Leafs. Think you have shown why the Leafs should trade Nylander, so they can protect Liljegren and have cap to sign an NHL goalie.

San Jose won't play the offer sheet game, things are going to get tricky for them next season with RFAs and goalie signings.

In a roster I made today.....I suggested trading Nylander so the the Leafs had the cap to protect Liljegren from an offer sheet and have cap to sign an NHL goalie.
Man, I got lots of criticism from Leafs fans who just looked at the lose of production with Nylander. But I really don't see any alternative but to trade Nylander /

DAL would rather offer sheet Liljegren themselves. They can offer the $4,2M max offer at the 2nd round pick compensation.

they would have 23 mil in space next year with 2-3 more rookies pushing their way into the lineup we should be fine! kind of like the ideas here except the offer sheet, we’ve had a lot of positive deals in the past with toronto and i would hate to ruin that relationship.

Have to sign Meier (8-9M), give Merkley a pay upgrade who might look into an offer sheet himself if you offer Liljgren that, pay Balcers, find a replacement for Reimer

Get replacements in the top-6 for Nieto, Bonino. ($8-10M)

I think it get's tougher than you think if you can't move Burns.

Yes I saw your comment your math doesn't make sense to me. Nylander and Mrzarek traded for second makes sense to me. Thanks almost 11m in cap to fill various. positions
Your idea keep 7m and buyout Mrzarek at 1m. That's 8m...Not much room at all to get an NHL goalie.
Just my opinion the Leafs are much much better trading Nylander(and Mrzarek) cap free and fill other positions with that cap.

Yes, trading Nylander and Mrazek gets you 11M in cap space to "utilize".

You gave Eric Comrie $3M for multiple years, over paid Liljegren and Mikheyev, and slotted an injured Kase into Nylanders open spot. You didn't utilize that space for anything, and only got a late second back for your 80 point winger.

no doubt, but with Lilgeren Merkley isn’t as vital, plus Merkley next deal will be a smaller bridge deal unless he explodes offensively and plays at least adequate D this year
Balcers is expendable as is Nieto (Gushin robins Coe can replace Balcers and Leonard Raska chmevelski and Weatherby can replace Nieto)

Man the issue wasn’t that you traded nylander, you cap dumped him and got nothing of value in return.
If you wanna trade him for a top 10 pick this year plus another first then that could make sense. (Yes they can get a package like that, he makes 7 million, not 17. Teams can find ways to fit him) Still gotta spend the money saved better. If you’re just gonna have kerfoot and mikehyev combing to make nylanders money, and not upgrade the goaltending, just keep nylander.

Does TOR accept a Nylander to SJ trade in exchange for SJ's 2022 1st rounder (#11)? Maybe even plus Wiesblatt?

I highly doubt it. Kapenen got pick 15 and a prospect from the penguins just two years ago. Ya he’s contract was cheaper but not even close to the level of player.

Not when they are win now mode. That #11 pick could be a couple years before he claims an NHL roster spot, and I really don't know much about Wiesblatt. But just based on his most recent numbers, doesn't look like he's ready to make the jump and have an impact.

I agree with your logic, I just think that if they're in win-now mode, as they of course are, something has to give in terms of them losing either a few good depth players like two of Liljegren+Kerfoot+Sandin (this is after buying out or sending out a 1st to get rid of Mrazek, which is a given), maybe even Muzzin too, or losing a key big contract player like Nylander.

That seems to be the narrative every year, Dubas manages to figure it out without making drastic changes. Not overly concerned.

Leafs take that # 1 pick and and that new found 7m cap easily. I say that might be overpay by San Jose

Sorry this is where your logic fails. The Leafs didn't get just a 2nd rounder for Nylander. They could a rid of Mrzarek's buyout 1m X 4 years and got 7m by not having Nylander. OK even if you didn't like my choice of what the Leafs did with that "new found" cap space.....fill in your players, and you will see the team is better in multiple positions than having just one Nylander.

Yeah, like their own J.Campbell. I've seen the Tor fans ACGM, offering Campbell like 4 x 3.5, GL w that. He's starting at 5 mill.

Can't have JVR AND Roy, it won't work cap wise.
