Description
Just an idea. Doesn't seem practical but thinking about this team makes me think if Ellis can stay healthy (even if he doesn't stay healthy the whole season we have Peeke who can slide up into 1RD and blanks who can play 3RD if he misses games) this could be a team that can compete.

Future salary cap issues after this year could arise. Feel like if we keep Gus he could sign a very team friendly deal after this season (thinking like 3x3-3.5) He loves Columbus and is starting to raise his family here (which may be the only recruiting point for getting players here lol).

If Gus does take a team friendly deal then we may just be a mil or 2 short of keeping this team together the following year as well. Then Voracek's contract expires when we need to sign Kent and Cole so we should be okay.

Feel like this team could compete for a playoff spot this year then Stanley Cup the year after if Ellis can stay healthy.

Torts loved Foudy so feel like if philly hired him this would be an enticing piece in a trade for some RD help that CBJ needs.

Don't really know Ellis' full value since he has been injured a lot over the past few years so may need to add more.

Can definitely see the Canucks taking that. It’s a good offer

I like Ellis but he is a very injured and will be 32 next season. That contract could turn very badly feels risky to give up a 2nd for him.

For JT I would do that if you switch corson for bean (depending on the contract). I feel like this is one of the better offers Vancouver will get too. Maybe a contender gives them a top prospect to get over the top but I doubt they get an offer for a higher pick. Still think we should just wait to see if he hits UFA

Philly won't move Ellis, they basically called 21/22 a write off after Couturier went down and decided not to rush Ellis back. He is still a 1b when healthy

I think a contract extension can only happen after the 2022 draft, so it will have to be a 2023 pick

I'm assuming it can only be signed after the draft but a gentleman's agreement can happen before. Like the Seth Jones trade last year with Chicago.

Definitely interesting. I think I'd swap Boqvist for Ceulemans and try not to trade the 1st (I'm a bit of a Boqvist pessimist though I can't super see Van wanting another diminuitive offense minded D). I've liked JT Miller for a while but he's harder to see on this team with Voracek, so I think the roster needs some more tinkering. It heavily depends on the Miller contract and Ellis is a big cap future risk, so I can't see Jarmo swinging for it as they want to build slowly(not that it's the point). It would position us well to sell Voracek and Nyquist and allow Miller and Ellis to fill the leadership void while the kids pick up their on-ice contributions. Those assets feel ok to lose if we can keep exchanging.

In order to compete I think we'd need some size that can play and I think Ellis takes up that spot. Think a Trouba type who can be a bully and thrive on the walls in the playoffs. On D we'd be looking at Luke Schenn or Gudbranson as the very low skilled end. Maybe Cernak, Sergachev, Romanov, someone that can dictate with their body. Jordan Greenway would be an excellent forward. Dubois for what that's worth. We definitely need something as the temperatures heat up, NHL refs can't handle the playoff style and we need to be able to protect ourselves.

Good ideas.
