29 points in 66 games of as you say being a 4th liner is pretty good

the fans will never admit it because every cane is perfect according to canes fans, but KK is average at best and if they didnt try to be tough they might me moving on, much better ways to spend 6.1m than on kotkaniemi

Habs fans think this type of thing triggers Canes fans.

6.1 Million dollars though. You would expect him to be on a better line

Speaks to the depth of the Canes, not the ability of KK

They did it for the simply annoying the habs, there is no other reasons. If they wanted to, they could have spent 6M on Danault, and keep their picks

Team was deep, don't think many fans or people within org think it was a mistake since they signed him long term. Could end up being a big miss on Canes part but they've generally gotten these types of moves right the last 5 years or so. I give them the benefit of doubt until they prove me wrong consistently.

You realize the 6.1m was done to force the Habs to not match, right? Never mind, using logic to inform someone who doesn’t use logic probably won’t work.

I think that's a good media narrative and it for sure played a part but I think it's also pretty ignorant to assume that was THE only reason or even the main reason

Don't see much regret in the organization or the fan base. He's likely getting a shot at 2C next season and if he does well it's a great deal, if he's more suited as a 3C I think the contract is pretty fair value to take over from Staal once he's gone.

I know it's a lightning rod topic w/ Habs fans and I get why - I think it's too early either way to say whether this was a success, failure or a fair deal. Generally, I think this FO gets the benefit of the doubt because most of the moves they've made the last 5 years or so have panned out, even when they're widely criticized at the time (Mrazek, Ned, TDA, etc.)

I've soured a bit on KK, but still too early to call him a perennial bottom 6er. But I kinda agree with you as it may have cost them a Cup this year if they spent those $6M on a player that was worth it at the moment - Forsberg, Miller at the deadline or Sam Reinhart in the summer.

Yep, jury is still out in my eyes but I'm optimistic that he becomes our 2C of the future w/ a 3C floor which isn't bad at that AAV. They could've used a goal scoring winger for sure but I think if Necas takes the step many assumed he would (including himself) that's essentially the piece we were missing.

I like your takes. Not all white nor black at this point, but the jury is still out as you said.

I don't think it's a matter of ego. I get the logic behind the move and it could pan out great-to-very-great eventually, but it confused me that a team in "win-now mode" spent those assets and cap space on a player that was and still is a project instead of a sure bet that could have brought them over the top this season.

Another forgotten part was the $6.1 AAV pushed the Canes very close to the cap ceiling and allowed them to put Gardiner on LTIR and gain the additional benefit of more LTIR relief for in season usage.

shall we talk about the backfire of Dvorak and how he was more costly to acquire?

You used the first rounder we gave you on Dvorak. Look where he is now. And not only that, if the Habs had actually been willing to trade KK so the Canes didn’t have to go the offer sheet route, the Habs would have gotten a better package. You would have gotten a first, third, and any prospect not named Jarvis.

Also, I do think you should look in a mirror before criticizing others about logic, cause right now, you are the ignorant one.
