That Pens trade is beyond bad. Nothing there is worth even close to a 1st. Dvorak isn't even the realm of a 1st. Just because you guys gave that up for him, doesn't mean he's still worth it. Pens decline hard.

JE's stock has tanked and would rather not have that $3.5m contract. If you did Graves for FLA 1st one for one, I'm in

They all are. Choosing the worst one is like Sophie's choice except all the kids die.

Ranger trade is pure nonsense, Drury would hang up mid call.

the whole habs did a blow up .... you guys need to understand what this mean in valuing those players ... Edmundster is not bad nor Dvorak nor Petry, our team and Ducharme were ...!

I think you have the issue understanding value. Dvorak is a fine player, but he's a good 3C and a so-so 2C; that's simply not worth a 1st. Poehling is just a throw-in.

Pens pass. The pens have a plethora of options for free in UFA that are better than both Dvorak and Poehling at center.
Dvorak is probably worth a 3rd and Poehling maybe a 3rd or 4th at best atm. The pens aren’t going to overpay for an average at best 2nd line center.

But why take the risk if the Devild don't need to?

So basically:

Petry, Norlinder, Poehling, Dvorak, Mailloux, Clague, Drouin, Hoffman, Allen 4th round pick, and roughly $4M in cap savings for 1 year for Dubois?

Let's break it down:

Norlinder & Clague will never make the NHL or will be bubble players at best so let's eliminate them as value adds.

As things stand the only way you get anyone to take Hoffman or Drouin is by offering picks or prospects. Not because they are bad players, but because they have bad reputations and are expensive. Neither of them likes to back check. Drouin has mental health and injury issues. Hoffman's wife is an issue and he's known to be something of a loner (not great in the room)... So these players do not add any value to a deal and actually hurt any deal today (though if they play well they can surely be traded at the TDL). Let's remove them because of that.

Mailloux's rights are a hot potato. Yes he's talented, but any GM who signs him is going to get a whole bunch of "cancel culture" blowback. There are other options out there and the juice is definitely not worth the squeeze. Let's remove him as well because no one wants him but hopefully he can still be a factor for the Habs one day.

So that leaves Petry, Dvorak, Poehling, Allen, and a 4th round pick for Dubois. If I'm a cup contender looking for depth and I have 14M in cap space, I might consider this and would be lucky to get it, but as a rebuilding team, trading a 24 year old for this bunch makes no sense. I know you were trading these guys to other teams but none of those deals made sense.

we'll see in near future if 2 1st and a former 1st rounder is enough to grab PLD ... if Petry or Dvorak value is closer to mid first round or a 3rd ... Was I wrong with Chiarot Kulak and Lehkonen ... nope ... so I don't think I do have issues with valuing players and team context.

Mailloux cannot be seen as a 1st for the reasons stated above.

Hoffman will cost probably a 3rd round pick per season of his salary to dump.

Clague is of zero value.

The deals that got you the 2 X 1sts are alright... But I doubt those teams jump on them.

no matter what you say former 1st mean where he was selected ... As for zero or negative value if Weber can go one vs one with Dadonov or both without retention we clearly can do hockey deal with hoffman ... Clague as near to no impact on the cap and can still fetch a 5th or a 6th.
