I would assume the Devils 2nd overall pick is off the table as well.
The chances of NJD trading that pick for a player are probably around 1-2%.

I think Johnny’s choice isn’t about cash at this point. It’s staying there or playing for the team he always wanted to play for

I get that it doesn't happen often but, look at the circumstances that we are in. We completely lucked out again in the draft to move up, we need to accelerate the rebuild. This pick if it's Slafkovsky or Wright/Cooley is going to be a good nvestment in the future. I'm patient but, it's starting to wear on me. I'd be a little more inclined to trade for help now because Gaudreau isn't a sure thing in free agency. Who knows though. I'd be happy with either one (pick or DeBrincat)

The problem with DeBrincat and Gaudreau is that they do not fit the type of player NJD is seeking, which is a top-6 winger that plays heavy front of the net and wins battles in the corners.

I would find it a little surprising of we ended up with either of them.

Kubalik wouldn't play for the Kings before, why would they trade for him?

We have 13 forwards on the roster already, and plenty of forward prospects in addition to Turcotte for the last slot, so no interest in adding Kubalik.

Nobody (especially not the Devils) is trading their 2023 1st without protections on it. For us, I'd assume that would be Top 5 protected.
