Does this mean Holtby signing in Washington is a foregone conclusion?

Both goalies are pretty much the same age and both have underperformed the last 2 seasons. The difference is that Georgiev put up decent numbers in the years before that while Vanecek wasnt in the league. Avs are hoping Georgiev bounces back to what he was before and paid less than NJD did here. I dont see how NJD paying more for Vanecek makes the COL deal worse

Vanecek:
21-22: -2.85GSAx in 42GP
20-21: -7.58GSAx in 37GP

Georgiev:
21-22: -5.00GSAx in 33GP
20-21: -3.10GSAx in 19GP
19-20: +1.91GSAx in 34GP
18-19: +9.23GSAx in 33GP
17-18: +1.27GSAx in 10GP

I'm basing my opinion specially in what I saw last season. Yes, Georgiev can bounce back and play even better than Vanecek. But, at this moment, Vanecek value is a bit higher than Georgiev's. As a Pens fan, I hope to see Georgiev playing better than Vanecek. That's for sure. We'll see...

With this trade, I have to wonder if Washington is getting ready to make a run at Bob from Florida.

The value is fine but, why is Fitzgerald trading for another underperforming mid-twenties goalkeeper?

Why did we have to trade the second

bc hes 1 year of RFA left... jumping up that high in this draft was a great move... we got a really solid RSD and a 3rd

What's Bernier's status right now? He still has 1 year remaining under contract. Is he projected to play next season?

Trading Blackwood would be a catastrophic mistake right now, imo. You don't trade a player with high upside while his value is at a low point. Hopefully, he bounces back and stays healthy. If not, trade him later. Getting a mid-round pick for a potential #1 Goalie makes no sense. Tom Fitzgerald is a smart, analytical guy. I'm sure he knows this. I think the trade chatter out there is mostly a result of Leafs fans/media hoping to steal a potential #1 Goalie at a bargain price. Not that long ago, Blackwood was considered the future ace of the franchise.

Signing rights are worth a third and a slight downgrade at second, so this is a fair deal.

Unless he signs for more than $4.2... million, then the Capitals could have just done the QO and let someone sign him for more.

We could’ve gave them a third instead maybe and got both of those guys. That’s would have been excellent but it’s fine

Husso trade is a massive headscratcher but he had a much better regular season than V V

I don’t want us to to be mediocre and just leave things at where there at. We should still compete. Make moves. We got an nhl ready defensemen from this. Maybe we got for Miller or Gibson. Won’t be both. Maybe we make a splash in fa. There are a lot of question marks

sign Holtby for 2-2.5m... sign Sammy to 2.5 x 3. Aim for Copp at 5-5.5m.. he can play wing and center and maybe go for a RSD thats great defensively on a 2-3 year deal

Vanecek is worth a 2nd round pick straight up.

Before looking at this trade and instantly reacting to it, it's important to look at the values of all the draft picks involved.

Using a value chart like this one:

https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/

The combined value of picks #37 and #70 adds up to either pick #31 or #32.

Given that New Jersey also receives pick #46, the trade assumes Vanecek is worth the difference in value between pick #31/32 and pick #46.

The difference in value is about the same as pick #49, another 2nd round pick.

This is a fair trade.

This is the guy I've been yelling about for a good few months now that Devils should seriously look into bringing in.
I think he's heavily underrated, could be acquired for a very reasonable price and provides stability in net for a team that's been desperately seeking it ever since the decline of Schneider.

There's nothing I don't love about this for the Devils.
Great trade.

I cannot believe how huge Vitek's been for the Devils, he's probably Fitzgerald's most important acquisition over the summer.
And it's not some average goaltending most of us were expecting, Vitek's actually giving the Devils GOOD goaltending.

Don’t understand why we had to add the second
