Description
This is a very busy off-season for Hughes if some/all of these players are moved. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see all of these players traded before October. This lineup would struggle to win many games this year, which is exactly what is needed for another year. I think MSL and Hughes want to "compete" on a nightly basis, but to me, that means not getting embarrassed every night. The organization would never say it obviously, but I think they want to be at the bottom again this year.

I think these are solid trades for all teams involved, and helps Montreal get more picks and younger players. *IF* Price returns, you would need to get rid of another approx. $3.3M before the start of the season. Price's status being so unknown is really holding Hughes back right now imo. But it is what it is for right now.

At the trade deadline, you would have assets in Byron, Dadonov, Monahan, Blueger, and Khudobin (as rentals, assuming these players still healthy and have some kind of decent year). You could also see Barrie, Edmunson, Savard, and/or Bailey in the market, based on their performances. There are tons of potential deals to be made by Hughes. If done properly, this team should be back in the playoff picture within a few years.

It will be an interesting off-season. It should be exciting.

  2. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier [RFA Rights]
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Drouin, Jonathan ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Trading Drouin 50% retained, with taking Blueger off PIT's books, would fetch a pick and prospect. Maybe a conditional second based on Drouin's performance.
4.
EDM
  1. Allen, Jake ($1,437,500 retained)
  2. Hoffman, Mike
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Barrie and Hoffman would be a straight swap. Then trade Allen and a late pick for JP. Rumor is the market is hot for Allen, and the goaltending market is extremely thin. Allen should be worth more than normal.
5.
MTL
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. Dufour, William
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (NYI)
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The second pick becomes a first based on Anderson's performance.
NYI
  1. Anderson, Josh
Additional Details:
I am honestly not sure what Anderson will get. Rumor is there are a lot of teams calling, and Hughes won't trade him unless the return is big. But it is also a big contract. Along with taking Bailey off their books, there should be some return for sure.
My logic was a conditional first round pick and B prospect for Anderson, along with a third for taking Bailey in return.

  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (CGY)

  1. Dvorak, Christian
Additional Details:
To get rid of Monahan's contract, it will cost a first imo.

Fair enough if they don't. Saw some other Isles fans taking him, and there are rumors they are interested. Would be a very "Lou" move lol.

There were no Rumors, an Isles fan blogger mentioned him and MTL fans took that as the Isles wanted him.

Retention on Allen is not needed for the Oilers to trade for him, but they dont want Hoffman. Take Hoff out and add a 2nd rnd pick and you can have Barrie and Pujli.

If the Isles are moving Josh Bailey's 2x$5M it's because they want to use the cap space for someone else - and I can't see that someone else being Josh Anderson and his 5x$5.5M. They're different players, and I don't think Anderson is necessarily bad, just slightly overpaid for what he brings to the table. I'd rather get out of the Bailey deal next summer and hang onto Dufour and the picks if it comes down to it.

I agree with you honestly. But Lou L really admires those type of players. As a Habs fan, I would certainly like this deal for Montreal lol.

I think Edmonton will need to pay a price to get rid of Barrie's cap hit. I think Campbell will end up in Edmonton, but Allen would definitely be a good backup. I can see a similar deal getting done.

What do you think PIT will give up for Drouin at 50% retained? Or do you think they are interested?

I have saw a few Islander's fans wanting him. Not saying they do, but it's not just Habs fans. And you may be right, there may be no truth to it at all.

Hard pass from the Pens. Blueger has been a great 3rd or 4th line center. Doesn't cost much and good faceoff guy. Drouin is over paid and hurt all the time. This deal is not good for the Pens.

Easy pass from Seattle on taking Armia's contract.

Kassian has a year less, a slightly cheaper contract, and required 3 spots in the draft, a 2nd, and a 3rd to move. Armia has higher AAV and longer term, it's going to cost at least two 2nds+3rd or a 1st/high-tier prospect to move that salary.

Drouin has missed too much time the last few seasons and hasn't really been effective when he does play. PIT already had a couple guys who are injury prone. Doubt they would add another

The Oilers will absolutely not have to pay to move Barrie. And if they get Campbell(which i dont think they should, too risky), they wont be making a trade for Allen. Skinner will be up with the team as full time back up
