Islanders can’t afford to take on Tatar’s contract without sending someone back. Also he’s not a top line winger which is what they need.

Like Tatar but he is not what the Isles are looking for. Already have similar players to him.

-Canucks are going to need *something* strong coming back. Severson is fine, Wood is a bit of a reclamation project after missing 79 games this season, and the picks are meh. Upgrade the 2nd to a 1st and throw a useful prospect in there and you'll have a conversation.

-Isles pass, Tatar is a fine player but they've got more middle-6 wingers than they know what to do with already. The framework of the trade would work value-wise with another team that could use him, though.

-Sure, Seattle probably throws you a low-end asset for Johansson to see if they can flip him out for something better at the deadline.

Garland for Severson (with extension) makes more sense hockey wise.
