Islanders say no. Muzzin would be playing third pair minutes in NY and taking valuable time away from Salo.

I keep seeing these "Kerfoot to Anaheim for assets" trades and I'm genuinely curious as to why that makes sense to anyone?

Because the recent Pacioretty and Bjorkstrand deals couldn’t have possibly impacted Alex Kerfoot’s trade value! Even though he’s a far inferior player to both of them. If I was feeling generous I’d trade a fourth for him rn.

Man, that's one of the steepest asks I've seen for kerfoot to Anaheim. We're in no position to give up draft capitol for a rental, let alone one we know you need to dump for cap compliance. We will wait until he walks next summer in FA and sign him if we want him.

Toronto has no leverage to ask for market value for Kerfoot, let alone THAT price for a middle 6 guy on an expiring contract. He may have had a career year based on points totals, but any middle 6 forward will rack up assists on a line with Tavares and Nylander, and his goal scoring was completely flat.

Depends on health. A healthy Muzzin like the one in the playoffs is not close to playing 3rd pair mins. He's right next to Dobson and it's an elite top4 in the league. I would say top five. Rounded with the Mayfield bottom pair and it's the best backend in the league.

Besides the point though. I like Bailey as a player. But if that's the rate to add upfront, leafs better off keeping Muzzin.

-Why is Anaheim giving up a 2nd/6th combo for a pending UFA when a far superior player in Oliver Bjorkstrand just got less?

-Why are the Islanders taking on Jake Muzzin's hit to be 3rd on the depth chart? Regardless of how he looked in a handful of playoff games, I can't see them taking on an increased cap hit after the asset cost they paid to acquire Alex Romanov to play LD2 at the draft. I just think it's a bad use of assets to move 2 years of Josh Bailey (a cromulent middle-6 winger who's overpaid by about $1.5M) to pay Jake Muzzin an extra $625K the next 2 seasons to be 3rd on the depth chart.

Here’s the thing tho. Romanov is penciled in as LD2 and I really like the fit there. Bailey is still a useful player imo. I can’t imagine he becomes a cap dump cause he’s probably the longest tenured player in NY Sports lol. Also Barzal has Christmas and Thanksgiving with him lol.

They aren’t moving Bailey. Lou is too loyal for that and if I’m being honest I don’t have the heart to move him either. You can call me out for that but I don’t think that locker room would be thrilled with the trade unless u brought in a very very big name. And even then I don’t think they would be happy lol.

Yeah I think the Romanov move was to secure the 2nd pair LHD spot, so I don't think NYI are on the market for a dman. Their d-core looks good. I was more arguing theoretically where Muzzin would fit. If Muzzin is healthy, there is zero chance Romanov would play ahead of him though.

But he’s never healthy so the isles have no incentive to risk it
