Miller Asking Price

Created by: Warpbox
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2022
Published: Aug. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is what I would be asking for if I was trading JT Miller, not actual fair value, but a starting point. If any of these trades actually happened I would be over the moon. I think the closest one is the Severson one where if protected I think is fair. Please don't be mad, this is just asking prices.
Only mentioning if picks are protected/unprotected for teams that missed playoffs last year

We have seen Severson for Miller trade a thousand times.

Still don't think Fitzy bites unless Miller agrees to team-friendly deal.

We will have a lot of mouths to feed.

You won’t get a Schneider or Jiricek level prospect for a rental Miller.

You can't keep Severson either to be fair, I imagine Vancouver tries to persue him in free agency if they don't trade for him.
Also, sorry for constant Miller for Severson trades, but if I said Nemec I would have been murdered

I don't expect to, it's just the price I'd ask for for Miller

          Tough spot for VAN.

I think they're gonna be a much better team, having Boudreau for a full season. They're gonna be in the mix in the Pacific, which makes a Miller deal in-season almost impossible. Trading a Miller away while the team is in the hunt is a good way to lose the locker-room.

We could keep Severson...just might have 4-5 righties in the lineup some nights.

(we won cup in 1995 with six lefties)

Actually? that's insane. I just can't imagine he fits great on the team with Hughes and Nemec coming in along with Marino probably not being moved and likely keeping Siegenthaler

          Agreed

The problem right now for Vancouver is they got to compete with the Central division to deal with for the WC spot and teams in that division have got better. On top of that

They got Calgary, Edmonton, and a healthy VGK along with an improved Kraken and LAK team in their own division to worry about

If they dont make it and Miller isnt traded at the TDL or isnt extended not good. Personally would have traded him last TDL with his value being insanely high. Now teams know the circumstances and can wait it out but that doesnt mean Van wont get a good return just wont be as good as last years options

I think the good news is they can likely get a lot of leverage with a few teams near the trade deadline if 2 of Rangers/Islanders/Devils are in a playoff spot where they can use each of their offers against each other to raise the price

Not one minute played by RHD

          Stevens
          Niedermayer
          Daneyko
          Albelin
          Chambers
          Driver
(Dean was 7th dman, also a lefty)

And their AHL team won Calder cup same year with five righties (Smith, Hulse, Modry, McAlpine, Helmer)

I could see Vancouver being a playoff team, either as a top 3 Pacific team, or wildcard. There's good pieces there.

The issue is that they're in the same position Calgary was last year. They've got two prominent players up for contracts, Miller and Horvat. It's a fine line the organization has to walk. Canadian owners love playoff revenue, but it may mean you walk two key players to UFA.

I should also say, I believe Horvat will be extended, but the cliche, it's not done until it's done.

They have some nice pieces but they also got some notable holes and when we look at VGK, CGY, and EDM they are arguably better. Still see them as a potential WC team so lets see

To me agreed I feel Horvat will most likely be priority to extend leaving Miller a big ? which was why I was shocked they didnt trade him last TDL as unless they were massively overvaluing him there had to have been some really good offers

Jackets can't afford to re-sign Miller unless a significant amount of money is taken back for 23-24.

They have some nice pieces but they also got some notable holes and when we look at VGK, CGY, and EDM they are arguably better.

To me agreed I feel Horvat will most likely be priority to extend leaving Miller a big ? which was why I was shocked they didnt trade him last TDL as unless they were massively overvaluing him there had to have been some really good offers

If Vancouver isn't able to make a deal before puckdrop, rock meet hard place.

I think every team in the Pacific is flawed. As both of us have said, they're going to be in the thick of it this year. It may or may not be enough to make the playoffs, but it's going to be very tough on management if this thing drags out into the regular season

Your values are all over the place

1 season of Severson and a 1st vs 5 of Liljegren, 7 of Niemala. a 50 point winger and a 1st round pick for example.

          A) Devils first round pick is way more valuable then the leafs.
          B) It's also one season of Kerfoot who likely doesn't have much value as his numbers are heavily inflated by linemates and Toronto needs cap room.
Other things is that Severson would sign an extention (I forgot to mention that so that's on me) and the thing is Niemela is not guarnteed to be an NHL player. That being said Torontos package >> New Jerseys, but the value of a chance at Bedard is insane

Actually? that's insane. I just can't imagine he fits great on the team with Hughes and Nemec coming in along with Marino probably not being moved and likely keeping Siegenthaler

One of the best RHD in the league right now
If one of the young guys bombs then what
Fitz is not going to trade that pkg and then give JTM 8x6 or whatever, nope

Wanting him yes, giving up a first for a team in top 5 1st rnds last couple years makes no sense to us

Drury hangs up the second you mention Schneider. Keep dreaming.
