Can't tell if you are serious or not but Marner is an elite passer with or without Matthews. All you have to do is just look at his assist rate from the last 4 years, only two (maybe one, I didn't watch hockey in 2021) of those was he playing on a line with Matthews.

I think people are missing the point that Marners next contract will be more than the current one and same with Nylander. This would be a collective number of near 20M.
for that same number you can have a number one defenseman, PLD and a chance to sign one of Miller or Kane

That's not an issue if Tavares is taking less and with the cap increase, their collective total is probably only 2m more, the absolute worst case which is unlikely is 15+13+10+8 = 46m, so 5.4m more than now, it's unlikely that happens but if it does then that's on management.

Miller will want 8.5m+ probably 9, PLD probably will want 9-10, Kane will walk and Jones will be 2-3m more than a comparable.

If Marner is to have the same appetite for a large contract as he did the first time around, it will be pricey. i agree he is the better player, in a cap world sometimes these are decisions you need to consider.
for Jones, i feel he has a lot more to offer than what he did last year...do you remember how well he played in the play in round in 2020? the same goes for PLD, who you can lock up for 8 years at 7M after this season...

not sure where you get these numbers.... PLD would never get that kind of offer....If Jones finds his form after a bad season he will be worth every penny... Tavares will perform better on the wing his last couple of years and PLD can help at C
