You do realize you're getting the 7th and 20th overall picks from 2020 in addition to a roster player here, right?

Mukhamadullin isn’t worth a 1st just because he was drafted there. Everyone thought it was a reach. It’s all about how other teams value your players, not your own. Sorry but a 1st should be added, because this isn’t close to fair for San Jose.

Where they were drafted doesn’t matter. I agree adding a 2023 1st might be a bit too much but then take out Mukhamadullin and it’s fair.
So…
Meier+Nieto
2023 1st+Holtz+Johnsson

A projected 5 D isn’t worth a 1st, sorry to let you down.

Okay yeah I can get behind that for sure. If we take out Muk we could add a first.

My dudes...in fairness to @stephane_robidas, this is basically the Debrincat trade except that you're getting Holtz instead of Korchinsky (Holtz >wink, and Shak instead of Ludwinski (Shak >wink...The difference here is the 3rd vs. Johnsson...it certainly ain't a another 1st.

It's also semi funny because as it stands now, simply qualifying Meier next season would leave the current roster with a total of around $8 mil to fill around 8-9 spots, including a goaltender.

That's an extremely reasonable, level headed response, IMO.

tears of joy In complete fairness here, I'm only accepting that as the Devs if I really, really think that I'm 1 Timo Meier away from a playoff spot. If there's any question in my mind about whether I'm a playoff team or not, I'm keeping Holtz & the 1st. That QO is f*ckin' terrifying.

Yeah, agree with your thought. NJ will be better this season but I doubt they make playoffs. I wouldn't make a trade losing Holtz and the 2023 1st.

One year of Meier is not worth Holtz, Mukhamadullin, 1st....at least not to New Jersey.

Holtz is a top-20 prospect with 3 years of ELC remaining. Take him off the table.

Mukhamadullin is a boom/bust prospect, but is one of our GM's favorites (probably in part because he has had to defend the pick so often...but also because the pick is looking increasingly justified). I'd take him out.

A DeBrincat comp doesn't entirely fit since Cat's production is a little higher, he is a year younger, his QO is big, but not as big as Meier's and Chicago has much more cap space in 2023 than San Jose will in 2023. Even if it did fit, I don't know how three 1sts = 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Look at the recent comps for pending RFAs

DeBrincat (20-22): 0.89 ppg (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
Meier (20-22): 0.78 ppg (?)
Reinhart (19-21): 0.76 ppg (late 1st + Levi)
Buchnevich (19-21): 0.71 ppg (2nd + Blais)

So something like: protected 2023 1st or 2024 1st + a prospect like Foote, Walsh, Zetterlund

NJD fans really hate the idea of losing Holts what about Mercer?
and for the most part this discussion is reasonable, sharks move Meier it would have to include the Devils pre agreeing to an extension prior to the deal.

Hotz 1st and Johnson for Meier is fair
Hotlz Mukhamadullin Johnson and a 2nd for Meier to me is fair
Mercer 1st for Meier is fair.

what would need to be added or changed to make this reasonable from NJD perspective?

Holtz and Eklund are pretty good guys to build a top 6 around

This. The idea of Holtz with Ekky alone makes me want this deal...I am also a fan of Mukhamadulin...I know he shouldn't have been a 1st rounder but he is pretty good.

ONly issue is that Matt Nieto is in SJ for another reason. His mom is pretty sick with cancer and he took a discount in SJ to be close to her as she lives in Cali.
