Hawks laugh 2 late 1st round picks isn't getting Patrick Kane at 50% retained. Hawks will want players that can help them now not 5 to 6 years down the road.

Actually the Hawks don’t want players to help them now . They want picks . They’re rebuilding for 5 years

They'll still need bodies, which they barely have as it is now.

if the Avs had 3M in cap space accrued from the start of the season to the deadline they could add almost 14M in AAV at the deadline

I dont think Kane is a good fit though. Rantanen already has the top line RW and the top PP right half wall position. Kane would be playing in a lesser role than normal (would get less points) and would be a big downgrade defensively. If they move out a big package of assets like that they should be going after a high end 2 way center

There are probably 2 untouchables in the Avs pick farm system that kill any deal Behrens and 1st in 23.

hawks reject but not for the reason you stated. They absolutely only want futures, not anybody who could help them gain points this year. They’re tanking for Bedard and they’re not bringing on anymore talent that detracts from that.

Isn't the reason kane and toews especially want out because the GM said they are planning on a 5 year rebuild??

If theres 186 days in the season (146 before TDL, 40 after TDL - these values were found from the trade machine tab in capfriendly - I'm not sure if they are completely accurate with the 22-23 schedule but if not then it's a good ballpark estimate), then you can average the daily cap hits over each day and set it equal to the 82.5M cap

If you have 3M in cap space that means you have a 79.5M cap hit for 146 days

146/186*79.5M+40/186*(After TDL cap hit)=82.5M
Then rearrange to get:
After TDL cap hit = 93.45M

Which is 13.95M higher than the pre-TDL cap hit of 79.5M

This is all assuming no LTIR is used and they have the same cap hit every day before the TDL and the same cap hit every day after the TDL

You still have to add players to the roster, Even if they're crap. And there's no such thing as a 5 year rebuild. Most rebuilds take up to 8 to 10 years to complete.

Not necessarily. Some teams are just bad at rebuilding. Ottawa seems to have done it in what, 6 years?

Or… VAN would probably take those two 1st’s and send Miller right now at 50% retained. He’d fill a position of need and they’d have him for the entire year.

No they don't take 8-10, that's ridiculous, it all depends on the team your putting together..

And ya you add free agents to 1 year deals and bring up your prospects that are nhl ready, that way you get 2 1sts for kane and more picks/prospects for these 1 yr guys at the deadline if they work out.. and if they don't it was only a 1 yr deal.
