Maybe I'm being bias but I'd have Mercer over Cooley. Cooley could be the better player once he steps into the NHL but, Mercer already is in the show and had a great rookie season.

Cole Caufield not on here is crazy. He's only 21. Guy scored more in just the time he had under Martin St Louis alone, than some of these guys had all year. 1 goal prior to MSL, 22 after wards. Rookie leader had 24 all year...

And CC only played 67 games in total.

There were a lot of guys that didn’t make list that one could make good argument for…Caufield and Dobson included.

Boldy - Lundell - Caufield
Perfetti - Byfield - Quinn
Holtz - McTavish - Mercer
Eklund - Rossi - Marchenko
Johnson - Johnston - Guenther
Krebs - Pinto - Yurov

Sanderson - Nemec
Zellweger - Dobson
Edvinssson - Faber
Fehervary - Clarke
Harley - Jiricek

Askarov
Wolf
Commesso
Levi
Cossa

Are just some of the guys that missed the cut

Yeah but heres my issue right. Luke hughes, love him hes gonna be a star imo, but he hasnt proven a damn thing yet. The only thing hes shown is that he can beat college kids.
Should lundell be on here? Absolutely. No disrespect to cooley but hes beating 17yo. Lundell is playing against the best players in the world. How many prospects do we see bust out year after year. Even looking back on some of the best drafts in recent history, we have plenty of busts. There seems to me to be this overhyping of prospects when most of them fall way short of their projections.

Yeah, no perfect way to balance now vs later.

Also, a big part of Cooley’s rise was his play against men throughout the year.

NTDP plays college series, about 1/3 of their games against NCAA teams. It was in those games where Cooley’s 200 foot game was lauded (I especially remember after game vs North Dakota).

Maybe not Bowen Byram or Luke Hughes. But the rest absolutely should be above him.

Even then there are a couple of guys from the '22 draft that are being overlooked.

NTDP are a bunch of 17-year olds. But their competition is not. They play in a league with mostly 18-19 year olds. NCAA teams are mostly 20-24 year olds. Average ages for various leagues (and NTDP) listed below. There is a 5-year gap between NTDP and NCAA. So I think your original point of “beating up on 17-year olds” is not accurate.

NTDP: 17.4
WHL: 18.6
QMJHL: 18.7
OHL: 18.7
USHL: 18.9
MHL: 18.9
NCAA: 22.6
Liiiga: 24.8
AHL: 25.2
SHL: 26.0
KHL: 26.4
NHL: 27.3

Jesus the '22 draft prospects are 17-18yo and havent proved anything. The overhyping of prospects is insane. Sorry but byram should be in there over power (hes just better i dont think injury concerns are counted here) and dobson should be in there over both hughes and bouchard.

It’s a projection for future. Not an assessment of how good they are today.
