And two of those three teams got worse and the other stayed the same.

Of the teams the Canucks are competing with, only Nashville got better.

Not much point in going back forth about this any longer, Let's see what happens in the regular season

When this contract kicks in he will be, at the moment, around the 35th highest paid forward in the league. Regardless of Vancouver's cap situation it is a solid signing. In 2 years, at the latest, the cap will be rising more than the 1M per season we are seeing now. By the time this contract is in it's waning years, where most contracts get ugly, there will be a team that will take it on just to hit the floor.

It’s a meh deal, Miller’s been good during his time in Vancouver but don’t expect much more than a 70-80point guy

That is totally fine. Kadri is going to be a 50 pt guy at 7 million, so as long as he stays around 80pts, the deal is good

This was so inevitable, should have moved him at the TDL. Resigning him was the worst option available to the Canucks, and they did it anyway. The Canucks are back to square one as a capped out team stuck in purgatory.

Terrible contract for a non contending team... this was always a bad signing for Vancouver

Miller must have known the Canucks were in a bad situation. Sure he grabbed the guaranteed money, but I think in his heart he knew he wasn't going be happy being a Canuck. Despite his NMC which eliminates him traded to even poorer team with cap, betcha he is praying to a contending team in East.

Sorta reminds of the Eichel situation in Buffalo. Sure the money was good 10m X 8, but at the time the Sabres were disaster organization. He begged to be traded in year three.

You tagging others like that says more about you than anyone else. That said, it doesn't mean the Canucks need a scorched Earth rebuild.

The answer is trade anyone not named Petterson, Hughes or Demko (even though I call him and Hughes overrated I know they won’t trade them)

After a rough start to the season, Miller is above a point-per-game and is a +8 in the month of March. If he maintains this next season, then he will be earning his salary.

First 100-point season in his career and his on-ice goal differential is just shy of 30 ABOVE expected. I wonder how many people still think this is a bad deal?

Put me down as one that didn't think it was a good signing. But give Miller and the Canucks credit, such a turnaround this season with much the same on ice personnel.

I think the concern with this contract was not what would happen in the first year, but what would happen in years 5-7. That said, he’s been playing at about a $10.5M level this season, so he’s already delivered $2M more value than his cap hit. That should at least partially offset overpaying him later in the contract.
