Avs won't trade their backup at the TDL, that would be asinine. He went 6-0 in this year's playoffs so clearly someone they can trust and who is important to the team, especially behind an unproven starter like Georgiev.

Yeah, I don't see how that MTL trade makes sense for either team. Avs need a dependable backup, Montreal doesn't want a 30+ year old goalie.

Not sure the Avs can afford Schmaltz if they're going to have to re-sign Mac, Byram and Newhook; they need Newhook's cheaper years.

I don’t think Colorado is giving up their 2C for a RW, no matter how highly I rate schmaltz

Why would the Habs even care to take Francouz off their hands unless they are paid to do it?

Allen is better and surprisingly younger. If Francouz had some upside, maybe, I guess. But trade makes zero sense unless there is another domino to fall

He didnt suggest the trade. OP did. There is way more incentive for the Avs to do this trade with their cap issues. Backup goalies aren't in any way desired especially signed to a 2 year term.

Francouz is worth it. He was good in the playoffs when he was needed. Avs have no issue with that contract, especially since they only spend $5.4m overall on goaltending.

The argument is that the Habs dont need him. That is what black was saying. He's valuable to the Avs, thats fine but Hughes has said over and over that hes not paying with draft picks. Francouz is 32. They have Allen as their starter and Cayden Primeau coming up. Francouz wouldnt even be a placeholder. He's useless to the Habs. 2 million is an expensive luxury as a backup. That isnt an asset you can sell behind a great team insulating Francouz.

That's fine. The trade is bad for both teams

Rolling Annunen as the back up into the playoffs isn’t a recipe for success neither is moving Newhook.
