Trades I wish would happen

Created by: rA9_Messiah
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2022
Published: Sep. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If you dont like the trades, tell me if they are fixable and you you'd fix them.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Tatar, Tomas
Additional Details:
Why MTL want him :

Fan favorite from just a year ago, will be a good fit in this team .

Played with Slafkovsky, so that chemistry can help Juraj start his career.

Why NJ want him out :

Didn't produce offensively like they wanted.
NJD
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
  2. 2023 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Why NJ want him :

On pace for 50 pts last year, + a 4th round pick for taking the higher cap and the risk that comes with Drouin

Why MTL want him out :

He just changed his number, while at it why not change teams as well ! JK but Drouin really needs to get away from the pressure of being a Quebecois in MTL in a team like NJ , he will have more breathing room with the prepss especially.
2.
MTL
  1. Hörnqvist, Patric
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Why MTL want him :

Gets a pick in a deep draft

Why FL want him out :

To get under the cap.
FLA
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. 2024 5th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Why FL want him :

Byron is rumoured to be put on LTIR for the season, so pure cap gain.

Why MTL want him out :

Less spending
3.
MTL
  1. Barrie, Tyson
Additional Details:
IDK about this trade but I've seen it on this site posted by Oilers fan.

MTL need a RD to play some minutes and Barrie can do that.
4.
MTL
  1. Fehérváry, Martin
  2. Mantha, Anthony
Additional Details:
WSH needs a middle 6 center and MTL has a surplus of them.
Dvorak has the biggest value out of all of them I think.

The key player in this deal is Fehérvary.

Savard « kind of » replaces what Fehervary brings, physicality and grit.

The Caps take this occassion to shed Mantha. Even though he is always on pace to have 55 pts seasons , it's now been 4 years in a row where he plays less than 45 games.

A late first also goes to Washington to balance the value
WSH
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. Savard, David
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
  4. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)

The Edmonton trade is just Habs fans & media dreaming. Armia is a cap dump, he's a 4th liner making way too much money, with too much term, into his 30's. Edmonton just paid Arizona a 2nd + 3rd + 4 spots in the 1st round to move a better player on a better contract (Kassian).

The fact that Montreal's media and fans think they can trade this guy for a perennial 50-point RHD who is on a value contract making just $4.5M is incredibly naive. And that's putting it as kindly as I possibly can.

While I guess the WASH trade is somewhat close on value, Caps say no. Caps do not have a need for a middle 6 center. Maybe down the line, but not for this season. Could be a hot take, but I think Mantha has a breakout year this year. And finally, no need to trade a very young, still developing top 2 LHD.

And picks, although the Caps could always use extra picks, don't really help them with the "win now" mode.

Caps pass. They don't need middle 6 centers, they are stacked at center with Kuz, Strome, McM, and Eller. Mantha>Dvorak and Fehervary>Savard. The picks might make up the difference but the Caps are in a win now mode and those swaps are a downgrade.

FWIW Paul Byron might be ready for the start of camp, if not early this season, so more than likely not LTIR at all for him unless he gets injured again.

I figured as much ... Can a 3rd or a 2nd round pick going to edmonton make this deal realistic?

No. You'd have to find a team willing to take cap dumps to move Armia - Edmonton is a contender so they aren't playing that game.
