They aren’t trading Samuelsson. He’s really good and with Ryan Johnson probably not signing they would especially need him. Bjork will be lucky to be in the NHL by next season. Peterka is already ready for top 6 minutes right now, so he definitely will be a top 6 winger by next season.

rosen is nice but the management seems pretty set on trying to make this team a contender and garland helps us do that

It's a numbers game with Samuelsson, at least IMO. Severson balances out the left-right pairings, gives an excellent veteran stabilizer for Dahlin, and Garland would be a huge offensive boost for the Sabres.

For a true contending team, probably not, but Buffalo isn't quite there yet, so I can see the argument that Peterka may well be ready for a top-6 role in that organization.

Dahlin likes playing on his offside better. I don’t think they will be aggressive again next offseason. Savoie will be ready Quinn and Peterka will continue to need top 6 minutes. I do agree I think Mittelstadt will be traded.

The top contenders in the NHL all have elite strong-side defense. I'm not saying that Dahlin can't or shouldn't play his off-hand, but just that all of the elite defenses have balanced pairings.

I'm sorry but I disagree with almost everything you said.
Severson is a puck moving dman. Buffalo doesn't need that samuelsson is more valuable to the organization than severson.
And Garland isnt boosting this offense, no more so than peterka or Quinn would.
Losing samuelsson and Rosen in a trade to get Garland is Ludacris

That's a lot of term for a 30 year old Stevenson. Should be the Sabres be at the cap or even over next season due to bonuses?

Good post. Agree on all points.
Over Casey's last 62 games he has 15 goals with 21 assists for 36 pts.
Over the same 77 games that Garland played last year, Casey would have scored 19 goals and 45 pts v Garland's 19 and 52.
That does not appear to be a "HUGE offensive boost for the Sabres"
We need to see what Casey can do when he is not handcuffed by Krueger or playing hurt.
Giving up Samuelsson and Rosen for a 4th and Rathbone makes zero sense to me.
I will concede that in a couple of years the Sabres will have too many forwards and not enough of spots, but Garland is not the player to target.

But I absolutely agree with balancing the Left and Right defense.

Garland is one of the best 5v5 producers in the league. He would have led 14 teams in the league in 5v5 points. He would easily be a 70 point player if he actually got powerplay 1 time

1:36 PP TOI/GM should have resulted in more than 3 pppt. but you can keep him, I would rather keep Casey, Mattia and Isak.
Casey will be just fine next year.
Let me add, a recent first round pick (15th OA in 2021) and a strong physical defenseman (drafted 32nd OA) is an excessive add on to a player whose offensive stats are similar,
"Garland is not the player to target."
