Yeah I know. I doubt it can be completely fixed in one year. When Myers is finally gone, we can improve our right side more but I don't see how we can move him before then

I think an interesting idea is flip him and a mid round pick to another team to retain half then flip for a pick

Devils decline. They have a surplus of forward prospects on the cusp, and RD prospects are worth their weight in gold.

Walsh is 2 years older than Hoglander and not an NHL player yet. Hoglander already has 2 years of NHL experience playing in the top 6 and top 9

Devils don't have room. Holtz, Mercer, Bratt, Palat, Tatar, and Sharangovich make up the top 9 at wing, with Zetterlund, Foote, Wood, Bastian, Johnsson, and Thompson competing for the last two spots. The Devils would be crazy to trade a valuable pick and prospect to add to this logjam.

D prospects take longer, too. Walsh is legit.

Myers and Pearson can be moved for assets when they're in the final years of their respective deals, no need to wait for them to slide off the books and let them walk for nothing

Can't see TB giving up that pick for a 31 year old who's point totals the last 4 years have been 34,18,45,27. Why would they?

Pearson is a perennial 35-40 point player, easily worth a 3rd, plus there is salary retention

In 2 of his last 4 seasons both of which were full seasons he scored less than 30 Please explain how you think that?

Don't just look at point totals, look at scoring pace. Pearson has scored at minimum a 30 point pace over those last 4 seasons

2018-2019: 37 points
2019-2020: 45 points (played 69 games)
2020-2021: 18 points* (Covid shortened season, played only 51 games)
2021-2022: 34 points (played 68 games)

You see? Pearson doesn't even need a full season to eclipse 30 points. Your numbers don't match

Defensemen also don't age at the same speed as forwards. RHD is more of a need this year in case of injuries.

In what world? Both are basically bottom pairing d men. Both are RFA. Neither of them have performed very well. Bear was a healthy scratch for a good portion of last season.

If I included that, I know there will be those people yelling at me saying I have to include a first round pick to dump them

Yes but Bear has insane underlying metrics, which suggests that the Canes have got a helluva hockey player in there.
Probably just needed one more year of development to truly stick in the team, which he have gotten now.

The same cannot be said for Dermott, he does top out as a #4-5 guy but doesn't have as much runway left to develop as Bear.
I like Dermott more than most fwiw.

I agree he is solid but he had a tough year espeically dealing with COVID. I don't think his trade value is very high right now. I wouldn't give up more than we gave up for Dermott
