Description

Weegar extended 6.5m x 8 years.

This trade gives Ottawa the top RHD they need.
This gives Calgary a top 9 forward upgrade, a replacement RHD, 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks and a lot of cap flexibility. They would have tons of assets and cap space to add at the deadline. With Weegar extending, their defence looks great even without Andersson.

I think this is a trade that both teams should consider.

That is a terrible trade offer for a top pairing defenseman. Delete this

Both Coleman and Dube are better options on the 2nd line than Formenton

Decent package for sure.

The top 9 will be interchangeable. Put Dube up and Formenton down then. It is still a top 9 upgrade for Calgary. It will all depend on chemistry and fit.

No NHL team trades their #1 RHD for a 3rd liner, a "good" prospect, and some picks... Weegar is definitely strong, but the #1 unit in Calgary is still Hanifin - Andersson. They are not in any sort of cap trouble to need to make this move. They can sign Weegar to that exact extension next year and not be in much trouble

Why should Calgary move on from Andersson just because they sign Weegar? Having a deep dcore is a good thing. Plus, Tanev only has so many years left in him.

In a vacuum, lindholm is a pretty good comp for weegar. I would say weegar should be 500k-1m more aav. But step out of the vacuum and there’s the canada tax, plus the info about the cap going way up. I think 8x8 is a good number

Flames definitely need a difference make to consider moving Andersson. I think that conversation starts with Batherson + Bernard-Docker
