You just forgot to attach your 1st 2024 to the trade but other then that it's all good. Just make sure the missus is happy with the one year move.

He plays on that 1st line and puts up 50+ points or even 60 he's gonna cost about 3 million dollars more to resign.

That’s way to much, yes he plays with stars but he’s probably gonna get 3.75-4 million for 8 years. If he wants more screw him and don’t sign him. He isn’t worth anything above 4

Why on earth would be sign for 3.5m? 8 years at 5.5 has got to be the minimum or else he signs elsewhere for more.

the fact that Bunting wants to stay here long term says a lot, he is a player that plays for the crest

or maybe he just likes knowing he can book his tee times months in advance without worrying about a scheduling conflict?

I think he wants to stay in Toronto because he was 26 year old before he broke out and why would you risk leaving the team where that happened especially if you are going to get to play along side Mathews and Marner, feel like 4.5 5 x 8 is probably something he considered he will be 35 at end of that and i think the 8 years dropped the AAV down to that 4.5-5 range.

Tavares played for the crest on his pyjamas, he could've taken $2M less to not cap strap the team, and influence Marner and Matthews to take less too (similar to Boston's players).

    Cash talks.

This is literally going to be Bunting's only contract of his career if he's signing 8 years. Half of that is gone in taxes, another 25% of the remaining amount is gone in escrow and agent fees.

That last part is what sticks with me - I get that he loves the Leafs, but being 27, this is his one shot at a big long-term deal, and it would be silly for him to not try and maximize his earnings when this is his only shot at it.

Could I see him giving a hometown discount to the Leafs through the 8th year? Sure, I think the likelihood of him getting a big second deal is only slightly more likely at 34 than 35, so he probably weighs that into it. But I'd argue he could easily match the Zach Hyman deal in UFA (7x$5.5M) so Toronto has to get close to that total compensation over the 8 years - so it'd be 8x$4.75M for the Leafs instead.

Not saying he re-signs with the Leafs, but it definitely seems like Bunting would be willing to take a bargain w the Leafs if the overall compensation is still sizeable.
Thats why people are talking 8 year deal.

Something around 4.25 x 8 is a good enough offer that Bunting would probably take it rather than test free agency, risk getting less, for only a few extra millies.

Exactly, if his market value is 7 x $5.5 at $38.5 total, he can hometown it over 8 years at $4.8 to help stretch the cap and help the team.

But as these other posts are saying, he'll leave $10M on the table because he likes Toronto.... that's hard to swallow... Imagine what his wife would say, the security of his kids future... leafs bias needs to be put aside when we're talking real life.
