If STL is in same spot at deadline and ROR still struggling, I would be interested to see what his value would be. Imagine it would be wide gap between bid and ask.

Interesting. If STL keeps struggling, I think ROR would be the most ideal guy for Leafs to target.

I honestly think the Giroux trade is a good measure for what he can be worth

I think one of ROR, Horvat, Or Toews with retention would be perfect for Leafs if the other teams are selling come TDL

Assuming ROR picks it up a little in meantime, that sounds about right to me.

Can't use Giroux as a comparable. His value was hampered by the fact he wouldn't waive to go anywhere other than FLA at the TDL

I don't know if I agree...absolutely no trade protection, and his numbers suggest that he's been far more unlucky than anything else. Not saying that he turns it around completely, but he's still a solid possession player, who has been the victim of horrible goaltending (82.2 OiSV%!!!), linemates who also have struggled, and the lowest shooting percentage of his career. I'd say it's more of just an unlucky stretch than a full-on case of regression (But I could be wrong).

Toews has turned the clocks back this year. 7 goals so far, looking like his old self.

the blackhawks in general are on a huge sh% binge and will not be good all year. the whole team is playing out of their league and are bound to regress to the mean.

Why should the Leafs give up much for a guy with one goal, no assists and is minus twelve this season. If Giroux is any indication of trade value, why would the Leafs give up good futures for a first round exit. Folks have to stop living in the past.
Fact is the Leafs are fine at forward.....if they are to give up any future it should be for defence or maybe a goalie

Toews only had one season (last) where he got/was on pace for less than 60 pts. Even if he's only getting 40pts though it doesn't matter (price would be lower) he's still bringing the faceoff dominance, the tertiary scoring, the intangibles, and they would hope that he's still Captain Clutch.

ROR has a two way game which should help them, they can then get a defensive defenseman which are typically cheaper. They might add a depth goaltender too.

The assumption here is that he picks it up sooner or later of course, otherwise he's probably had for two 2nds and not a 1st.

I'd prefer ROR as he carries the most recent cup experience, but yeah I think all of them are decent targets.

Trade value is not same as game value.

If he rebounds fully = trade value up, game value up (correctly priced)

If he continues unlucky stretch = trade value down, game value same (cheap)

If he just stinks = trade value down, game value down (correctly priced)

Wide bid-to-ask would signal mispricing.

I mean, I get it, and I'm not going to sit here and say "I'm right and you're wrong!", because there's a solid chance that I am, in fact, wrong...but I do think this kinda skips over the fact that the vast majority of GM's continue to live in "yesteryear" when it comes to player valuation. If ROR becomes available, someone is paying handsomely for the Ryan O'Reilly that they think he can be-the one that is a dynamite 2 way C-not the one that's struggled through 10 games.
