Description
The players in the trades can be changed, but my wish here is they begin to use some of their draft capital and prospect pool for proven players, both young and old. Petterson gives a 24 year old proven C to play along TT and making Cozens a top tier 3C, improving 2 lines with one trade. Losing Quinn sucks but we can't trade away nothing for prized pieces. I don't know if Krug is the right piece, he's a vet with 4 years left who has played important playoff mins, the idea is get some battled tested defensemen to team up with the young guns

Why do we even need Krug? LD PP QB, which we do not need. We already have Dahlin and Power on PP for 10 years ahead. We need a top 4 RD who plays decent defensively.

And I'd be surprised if the Canucks did it.

Need to add quite a bit now for Canucks to consider. I don't see why Buffalo would need Krug.

I know no one reads the description on top, but basically the players in the trades are interchangeable. The idea here is I think the Sabres need to start weaponizing their cap, draft capital and prospect pool. As a fan, it's a longer wait for these prospects than we need. Krug - whatever, my point there is we should trade for a veteran defensemen. Petterson is awesome and I'd throw in Kulich or Ostlund to get that done as well, but the bigger idea here is we should try to get some one like him on a team that might be considering a rebuild.

Eichel went for 3 first round pick equivalents and a 2nd rounder, and he had term left. He had the neck thing, so maybe Petterson gets a similar type deal, and we throw in a 2nd? Olofsson is a 25 goal scorer. Vancouver would get a top 10 pick in 2023, jack quinn, oloffson, and another pick or prospect. I dont think the Sabres would need to add "quite a bit more" - this is all under the premise that Vancouver continues to struggle this year, begins to sell off assets, and gets a top 3 pick and can take one of the stud C's in the draft (bedard, fantilli, or carlsson)

pettersson probably least likely canuck to get traded if they blow it up

That Sabres 23 first is shaping up to be a very substantial piece (considering the strength of the draft). I'm not putting that on the table until after the lottery (assuming we miss the playoffs). If that's a top 10 pick, that's more than we got for eichel as it is.
I'm fine with those pieces in play for a defenseman, but like others have said, I want a physical defensive right shot d as the target. I know cap friendly lists power as LD/RD, but I would rather keep him on his natural side and bring in a righty to partner. Krug is redundant, and at that cost it's not worth it for us.

Yeah as others have said... I think Pettersson and Hughes are the only two untouchable pieces in Vancouver.

Also, a bit of an overpay for Krug. Blues probably regret that signing after the first season and would be willing to part with him for less because the AAV is too high for the term they gave him. I think Jokiharu and a 2nd/3rd likely gets it done. Especially if the Blues go into complete fire sale mode.

Jokiharju, Quinn and the first would get you in on the Horvat discussion.

Pettersson will cost you 2 first round picks, Owen Power and another decent prospect.
