I would want better returns on both trades honestly.

Moldenhauer is pretty good. He was a high 2nd on my chart last draft. Not elite but definitely nhl material one day.

you think James reimer is going to be an upgrade, I dont see it

Every time avs get a goalie other fan bases say no way they will win with them in net, and every time what happens, they win with them in net. Maybe it's time to not doubt one of the top front offices and coaching staffs in the league when it come to player evals.

Georgiev is a good goalie

It certainly helps when they are one of the most loaded teams ever. Winning with a bad goalie in net is possible when you put up enough goals. Hence Kuemper last year with the .900 in the playoffs.

Georgiev has been a rock this year. I didn’t watch him last year (not a Rangers fan) but positioning, rebound control and his glove have all been super spot on. He has an .833 QS% and it’s not because he is making a bunch of lucky sprawling saves.

It's a small sample size. His numbers look good because of the team in front of him. Not a problem if Reimer isn't your need but come playoff time i do not see Georgiev backstopping colorado to another cup. He simply isn't that good.

Georgiev was a promising young goalie in NYR and did well in his first few years, so he has the tools to be a good goalie. He fell off and was known to need a change of scenery for like 2 years and he's finally gotten it, so it's no surprise that it's working out so far.

After the 2018-19 season, Georgiev looked he was going to be the guy to replace Lundqvist. However, Lundqvist didn't head out until after the 2019-20 season, which is the same season that Shesterkin showed up on the scene, he only played a few games but looked very promising. So there were no guarantee that the starter job would be Georgiev's in the 2020-21 season, he may have fumbled his opportunity or maybe Shesterkin was just better either way, he went from looking like he had the chance to be the starter to being stuck behind a younger goalie So, his name was out there in the rumor mill, and Shesterkin only got better the next year winning the Vezina and he only did worse. Must be hard for a goalie, being stuck behind one goalie because he is royalty in the organization and then being outplayed by a younger goalie after the first is gone.

I'm probably oversimplifying what happened based off the stats and what I vaguely remember but here are the numbers:
2018-19:
Lundqvist 52GP 18-23-10 .907
Georgiev 33GP (30GS) 14-13-4 .914

2019-20:
Lundqvist 30GP (26GS) 10-12-3 .905 (I think he just played less than Georgiev due to injury)
Georgiev 34GP (32GS) 17-14-2 .910
Shesterkin 12GP 10-2-0 .932

Play-in
Lundqvist 2GP 0-2-0 .901
Shesterkin 1GP 0-1-0 .900

Lundqvist gets bought out

2020-21 (Shesterkin takes and secures the starting job)
Shesterkin 35GP(31GS) 16-14-3 .916
Georgiev 19GP (18GS) 8-7-2 .905
Kinkaid played 9 games but not really relevant
2021-22 (Shesterkin was the obvious front runner with above .940 save% and ridiculous saves above expected; he goes on to win the Vezina as we all know)
Georgiev 33GP(28GS) 15-10-2 .898

Through out that season it probably sunk in for Georgiev that he won't even ever be a 1B, let alone a starter, in NY, if he was unsure about it from before.

2022-23 (after finally getting moved since being in the rumor mill since 2019)
Georgiev 9-2-1 .929

Of course, it helps playing behind a good defense and strong team overall, but so does regaining confidence. There's no reason to dismiss him as not being good or to think that Reimer is an upgrade over him. Will he backstop them to another Stanley Cup? Maybe, maybe not, but it doesn't mean it will be his fault either if he doesn't.

I know this thread has essentially become James Riemer vs the Colorado Avalanche but I'll throw my hat into the Ring as a Leafs fan and say that I'd do that first trade.

and there is data out there that shows Georgievs numbers when he has increased work load or not. When he has increased play and work load his numbers are better, hes not a goalie who gets 20 or less starts as a back up that he was getting in NYR with Igor in front of him.

And the heat maps show that he mainly he was letting in goals downlow and in tight, so as high danger shots as you can get. IF gallant and his poor defensive system was leading him out to dry more often than not with shots from the home run area, his numbers wont be as great bc of that combined with the small work load.

It was a risk for the avs to get him, but all the data was there to make a reasonable risk assessment that this goalie has potential. We arent even getting to the fact he is an athletic goalie compared to keumper and grubbie, you cant teach that. Some of his pushes to go cross crease are impressive.

Yeah, the way I see it was that he was in his own head because the path to a starting job wasn't available until Lundqvist was gone and when that happened Shesterkin cut off that path. I'm sure he was at least hoping to be in a tandem but I'm guessing he fumble his opportunity or maybe it was never an option would have to ask a Rangers fan or someone who watched them on how stuff unfolded in 2020-21. The fact that Shesterkin got the nod in the play in over Georgiev suggests to me that Georgiev was the second option going into the 2020-21 season even if Shesterkin wasn't officially the starter.

The biggest risk really for Colorado was just overpaying for him if it didn't work out, but like you said the data and his ability suggested that what he needed was a change of scenery, where he could be the guy.
