Think Pens decided their path on a player like EK when they gave Letang 6 years. Sharks fans will tell you having two players like this (Burns/EK in their case) doesn’t work out well.

Why is Pitt giving up so much? It's obvious that contract won't stay value and will be tough to swallow down the road. SJS should be happy to dump it and clear room for rebuild.

Sharks have a long rebuild ahead of them. Retaining money is not a problem when they are getting equal of 4 first round picks back. Petry’s contract is only for 2 more seasons anyway.

You guys can have Klingberg for 1 first and a 3.5 mil cap hit for this season.

He's no Karlsson, but you also don't have to leverage your ENTIRE future, and risk a potential cement shoe contract.
