That is crazy talk. Schenn is a bottom pairing player who can easily be replaced.

Schenn is plying better than severson this season. And both are UFAs and schenn will come in at probably 1/3 the cap hit next season.

Canucks should proceed into a trade like this with extreme caution

Sevo has made more mistakes and his attitude shows he is okay with being on a bad team. It's time to trade him.

I think the occasional turnover or mistake has always been part of his game. It’s frustrating at times. And I agree that sometimes his play lacks passion, his demeanor seems indifferent. But he is still one of the best in NHL at d-zone exits, can play an effective top-4 role on possession-style team, and even run a power play if needed.

I would not trade him for some random journeyman.

there is literally zero downside for the Canucks to go for the long run average better player with greater upside at no cost. What's it gonna do, cost you a playoff spot?

Anyways, no shot NJ does this for an ideal world 7th D.

I said 'currently' as in 30 games this season. I know Severson has been better typically. but Schenn is more valuable to VAN right now than Severson would be.
also Schenn's re-sign price is much lower than Severson which is better for VAN being cap strapped.
for this to make sense it would have to be Myers for Severson that opens up cap and roster space for Severson to fit in the organization with the proposed extension.

I don't think Vancouver would want to pay the price of trading Myers for Severson.

no, it's a hot take, I'm not an idiot. but current value based on this season puts Schenn ahead of Severson in terms of value to VAN, he's probably their most reliable shut down d-man. Schenn hits more, is paying better (+7) lining up against opposing top lines and can protect younger, smaller players. Severson has played himself out of NJD's line up by having next to no impact on the ice so how am I wrong?

Severson has fallen off the cliff that Myers has been at the bottom of for a while. do you think their value is that far off?

Schenn hits more because he plays without the puck more.
Severson hits less because he plays with the puck more.

Severson was scratched for one game...mostly because Bahl has looked good recently.

Honestly I bet if Jersey wanted they could still get a first or second + for sevo. Myers at this deadline would cost a first to move I would expect, minimum second in the offseason. So for Jersey to want to trade the still better player, who they have no obligation to pay next season, while taking on 6M next season it would have to be alot. Especially considering they have about 8-12 free agents to resign, if they decide to keep them. I would expect a first and second maybe a bit more, just not worth it for them as they likely still get a decent return for Sevo without a 6M obligation next season.

Severson's GAR/60 in even-strength play has actually go up this year

2021-22: 0.068 (def 0.120)
2022-23: 0.236 (def 0.138)

Myers meanwhile...

2021-22: 0.017 (def -0.055)
2022-23: -0.010 (def -0.075)
