This team is so solid on paper. That's exactly the type of trade they need to make

To me, this is a much better and more realistic idea than Horvat. Not sure he Ducks would retain for another year but I think a 1st is a solid return for said retention.

Let’s make it a 2023 1st since you’re getting an extra year of Rico under 3 mil

Rico is not worth a '23 1st even with retention. '24 is fair for both sides.

We'd be looking for a first for Rico w/ 50% retention. We would really like to try and get the 2023 as it speeds our rebuild up a bit, and pieces on either side could be adjusted for value difference. For example, we could look at sending a 23 2nd with Rico for the 23 1st and something.

Maybe you guys are done with the Kaut experiment, he's a guy who could potentially fit with us, and I hear he has made no friends with the management in CO.

I get it from the Ducks perspective but Avs can't give up another first rounder in a row. I'd rather go the 24' first, Marty Kaut, and possibly add in a late round pick for retention purposes. Even if Ducks retain one million that would help immensely once the Avs get healthy and start bringing people back. I've always been a Henrique fan, still can't believe how bad you guys beat up NJ in that trade.

Lol, its funny, at the time, Anaheim was not considered to have won the deal. In retrospect, we absolutely did. Vatanen just didn't seem to work in NJ. Too bad Blandisi never turned into anything https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/100853

Yeah, its understandable that you guys can't really afford with shipping out multiple years firsts. That is playing with fire as a lot of teams have found out in the salary cap era. I'd settle for the 24.

It isn't that management dislikes Kaut (I don't think) but Bednar, for some reason, appears to have no love for him even though he's been a pretty effective player in terms of his analytics. He's definitely been better than all the other call-ups in terms of actual production even if it hasn't been much but the whole team hasn't done much at 5v5 so it's tough to call Kaut out specifically on that.

Kaut's cleared waivers twice. I think it's safe to say his value in a trade is close to zero.

Henrique is certainly on a very short list of good trades made by Bob Murray when looked at in a vacuum. Of course putting it into the context of the time is necessary. The only reason Murray had Vatanen as a trade chip was because he gave away Shea Theodore to the Knights. The whole sequence of events was very typical Bob Murray as in one step forward and two steps back.

Now now, if you look at it though the bottom of a scotch bottle, it looked like a great idea! Which is probably how Murray was looking at it, i'm sure. Hope the guy's sobriety goes well. Really wish we hadn't lost Theodore, but revisionist history and all.

I think it’s funny to read Avs-Henrique trade threads and they’re all cordial and nice and the Horvat and Monahan ones are always a bloodbath lol.

Idk what Henrique’s actual value is, but I like that this trade lets the Avs fill a hole in their lineup without giving up a roster player.

I remember texting my brother who's always been a huge Ducks fan that they messed up severely by letting Theodore go to Vegas. If I were Murray I definitely would have traded something to coax Vegas to draft someone else. I actually like him better than Fowler and Manson at the time, Lindholm was always number one to me.

Kaut improves with each Eagles stint so I am not ready to give up on him, but I would move him.

Would you be interested in a prospect swap. Something like the '24 1st, Kaut and an ahler for Rico(50%) and Axel? Both prospects are waiver eligible next season and you guys have a handful of rhd coming into the pro system.

Theodore was the trade piece to get them to draft Stoner instead of Vatanen, thats the kicker. Should have let them take Vatanen, but then again, Vatanen turned into Rico, so the question you have to ask is, was Theodore worth Henrique? At the time of the trade, it could be argued it was, we were chock full of good/great defensemen, and we were short on forward depth.

The truly terrifying though is if we had traded Theodore to the Devils in Vatanen's place, how terrifying would the Devils be today?

I'm pretty sure I was the guy who first recommended COL may have interest in Axel, so its certainly a possibility. I don't think Axel is going to fit with the system that Verbeek is building for, but he could be an amazing fit with COL's go-go system. Inversely Kaut seems a bit lumbering for COL.

I assume that the reason the Ducks took Megna over Kaut when they were on waivers was a behind doors agreement between Verbeek and Sakic. Waivers claims for young players just past their exemption status may carry a similar distaste as an offer sheet in the GM world.

It's a coin flip on Verbeek giving Andersson a QO in the summer so sure, whatever. Kid has definite potential but he can't stay healthy to save his career. Maybe a new organization can revitalize him.

Hey, you never know, Mackinnon's insane health and fitness regime and a reduced emphasis on hitting may be what the kid needs to stay on the ice.
