Wish the term was shorter, but Chiarot is really valuable to the team.

It’s not exactly fair to call KK’s contract one of the worst yet given that he is 22 and it is year 1 of his new contract. We can have this argument again in 3-4 years, but right now it’s not even half way into year 1, and there is no credence for him to be here yet. He has been excellent defensively, and he has just started to heat up offensively.

Boeser’s isn’t nearly as bad as the other players listed. Miller I would’ve put but technically his contract hasn’t started yet

Seth Jones for sure. Good dman but not worth his 9.5. 7,5 would have been perfect for him.

Also I wouldn't put KK on this list. His contract could still turn out to be one of the best contracts in the league in a few years. He can clearly play. If he can start putting up a few more points, that contract can look like a steal very quick. At worst it is a minor overpay but he can clearly play.

Brock Boeser for only 2 more years after this one. Consistent 20+ goal scorer + his dad just died. Lets cool it.

JT Miller's contract also hasn't even started

5 mil is pretty hefty for a good shutdown center. He is an offensive blackhole.

I was going back and forth on Jones. I think people on this site underrate him. It’s not a great contract but not one of the worst imo. I can see why you’d put him though

He is still only 22. He still has a lot of time to put it together. If he can string 40-45 pts and be a great shutdown centre. The contract will be fine. If he can start putting up 50-60 and be good defensively, this contract starts looking very good.

I wouldn't put him on the terrible contract list YET.

I had Jones, Nurse and Rielly all in the same tier of D. I thought they should all get 7.5m a year. Rielly was the only one who got the proper contract. 7.5m a year equates to a very high end top 2 dman on any team. So still very good. 9.5m a year is top of the top. All 3 guys are very good but they are not the best of the best. They are top 15-20 but not top 5.

Of those three I think I’d put Jones around 8-8.5M, Rielly 7-7.5M, and Nurse 5-6M. I don’t know if I’d put Nurse top 15-20, but Rielly and Jones definitely are

But the thing about the Tavares contract is that for the majority of the contract, he played like an 11 mill+ player whereas now, he isn't... I pretty sure he could have gotten over 12 at the time (San Jose, I believe, offered him 12+) in FA. I do agree tho, the Boeser's contract isn't the worst, I really don't like the Miller contract and his recent play hasn't swayed me the other way either

Tavares has finished as a PPG player once with the Leafs. Higher than 35 goal pace once. That’s not an 11M player imo

He's also our captain, was on pace for over 30 goals another 2 time if it weren't for the shortened season, is consistently winning more face-offs than losses, brings a locker room presence (known from the documentary) etc. All I am saying is that there are far worst contracts out there than the Tavares one. On top of all that he is beloved here and handles the pressure better than most (see Jake Gardiner or Kerfoot)
