I'm finding it weird how many people want Olivier, but almost none of them are willing to trade at least a 4th rounder like the Jackets did to get him.

Olivier has become a fan favorite, would need to be more then that for Jarmo to move him. I don't see him as available.

Well, Davidson has essentially said he is willing to take on bad contracts for the right price. In the big picture, for a rebuilding team like CHI that is going to be struggling to hit the cap floor anyway, taking on his 5x5 contract (only 5x4 once the season is over) is doable. But, if you were to say that the proposed trade isn't enough to take on his contract, I would definitely agree.

I would say that whatever EDM adds to this trade to make it worth it for the hawks also makes it not worth it for the oilers. Just don’t see the fit.

Maybe... I don't buy what fans of any team say on here though. Even my own speculation comes with a grain of salt. So, they can argue about what EDM would or wouldn't give up until they are blue in the face, but they aren't EDM's GM. Plus, most people on here WAAAYYY overvalue their favorite teams players, prospects, and draft picks, while neglecting the multitude of other factors that are important when building a team. One player could look like garbage on one team because they are a bad fit, and look like pure gold on another. If EDM believes in what they've built and needs that cap space to make it work, there are other ways to bolster their roster and pipeline that could afford them the flexibility to part with some assets.

It's also possible we could be wrong about what it would take for Davidson to take that cap dump. He might be perfectly fine with just taking that first if he thinks it won't interfere with the timeline of when raises are due. He could even secretly like Campbell and think he might be a better fit with CHI or has more to give for one reason or another, kind of like the Dickinson surprise, and/or Campbell could just surprise us with improved performance after a change of scenery. In which case, he would be a free asset and a free 1st round pick. Also, that pick could turn out to be a cornerstone of the franchise and look like pure genius in hindsight. Davidson does seem pretty confident in his drafting and development mantra, after all. There are lots of factors and possibilities to consider.
