Gonna be a no from NJ. Casey is one of the best defensemen in college hockey right now. A Barbashev equivalent can likely be found for cheaper on the market

"One of the best in college" does not mean he's a prime or even good NHL prospect. The guy is tiny, so the Blues almost certainly don't rate him.

Torey Krug is the same height. I'm sure the Blues don't rate him

Barbashev isn't needed on the Devils, especially at the price of Casey

Gotta say, all three trades have fair value for Blues and the three non Blues teams.
Really depends on whether teams think the short term gain is worth it. If not these teams, gotta think the Blues can get that value from other teams.
Nice post.

I’d keep the boom or bust prospect instead of giving him up for a guy that can be found wherever for less. Or use him to acquire a higher quality talent than Barbashev

1 - Yes, Krug is the same height... and weighs 25 pounds more. Tiny isn't just about height.
2 - Krug also has a decade of being a solid 2nd pairing D-man/PP quarterback. Slight difference there.
3 - I'm pretty sure how they rate Krug is dropping quickly at this point. Because, ya know, he's just not big enough to defend in the trenches, try as he might.

Gonna need to work on those equivalencies, my man.

That's completely fair for you to feel that way, but it doesn't magically make Casey some sort of blue chipper. As for Barby, good luck finding a player like him "wherever for less". But just to be clear, I'm not asking for anything because I'm not trying to trade him. I was only reeling in the picture painted of Casey.

He was a first round rated prospect by most outlets, and has been looked at as an *early* steal since the draft. I’d take a chance on him, and trade a 2nd for a better player like Adam Henrique every day.

Players add weight over time. Casey is only 18 while Krug is 31. Its not like Casey is going to stay 160 for his entire career

He was taken 46th like five months ago, man. And however you want to slice it, he's still 160 lbs and college is still not the same as the NHL.

Except Krug was already 180 pounds before Boston signed him. My point is it's not an apt comparison.

I don't think Lafreniere has to be moved for a rental even if it's Tarasenko, so many ufas in their prime I think the rentals are going to be really cool this year

No, sorry, you don't gotcha. And suggesting that I'm the one ignoring data to push a narrative is the height of hilarious. Should we go ahead and look up the average size of NHL D-men? Or should we just count the percentage of NHL D-men who weigh under 170 pounds? Or should we do 180?

Seamus Casey is a more valuable asset than Ivan Barbashev. I don’t know what else to tell you when you literally are ignoring the tweet I posted because he’s small and in college (outperforming Luke Hughes in some cases)

Dudes a massive St Louis homer, not worth your effort. If the situation was flipped and the devils were offering Barbashev for Casey, this kid would be screaming bloody murder at how lopsided the trade is.

Oh I know! I just wanted to see if he had literally anything to bring to the table besides Smol and in college
