It would be amazing if we can get a 1st for Eddy, mony, allen.

I would also try to move Dvo because Owen Beck will be an upgrade at 3rd C

I'm okay with Dvo. The guy is 56% on faceoff and 18 pts in 44 pts. It's like 34 pts in 82 games. In my book, it's the production of a 3rd C.

Forever going to dine on that Chiarot trade, even as everyone blasted it at the time, he played awful in the playoffs, and now FLA is regretting it fully....but yes. Let's watch another desperate GM make a big mistake.

Teams throw high picks for those type of defenseman every trade deadline. It worked for Tampa in 2021 with Savard.

Washington is probably questionable as being a playoff team next year, so a first next year is probably not even on the table. Besides, Edmundson is not worth a first. Chiarot never was and that trade always stunk, and Edmundson is definitely not worth one even with retention.

it's not that he's worth a first, but with 50% retained edmundson is a good 4/5 dman for 1.75 million this year and next, when teams start bidding on him, someone will give in an trade a 1st+ for him, whether you feel he's worth it or not

Chiarot had a stronger defensive reputation, was more productive, and (most importantly) didn't carry the injury red flags that Edmundson has.

It's also worth pointing out that if your trade comp for Edmundson is a move that both at the time, and now in hindsight, was absolutely terrible for the team acquiring him, then I think you gotta take a step back and think about that. GMs are going to see what happened to the Panthers this year (gave up a 1st for a rental, got cap crunched and now that 1st might be a lottery pick) and are going to hesitate - remember, these are NHL GMs we're talking about, a group of 32 men who don't need another excuse to *not* make a move that helps their team. The Florida fallout post-Chiarot trade is going to scare a lot of them off, if Edmundson's lackluster play and injury history doesn't first.

Agreed, however Owen Beck will be an upgrade. My 3 C’s of the future are suze, dach, Beck.

There's probably a team that would give you that for Edmunson, but you're not getting it from Washington...

Washington already has 6 defensemen who can play the left side without issues (Orlov, Fehervary, Irwin, Alexeyev, Gustafsson, Van RIemsdyk), so Washington wouldn't even consider making that. If Matheson was a 1 year rental, maybe, but not Edmundson since that would all but certify that Orlov would leave which would be a major loss of talent that Edmundson can't fill.

I missed that he has term, so yeah, retention with term would probably net a first. The quote below says it perfectly, though. Washington doesn’t have enough futures and isn’t good enough now to trade away a first in a future year.
