So Smith makes $3,100,000 for this year then a pending UFA, Kubalik makes $2,500,000 for this year and next and Detroit retains $1,000,000 for essentially the 32nd overall pick if the Bruins win the cup and a 4th round pick. Yeah sorry but Kubalik to a divisional foe will be more painful than this.

I think you misread the post, the trade is not for Dylan Larkin it’s Dominik Kubalik.

The million was more of a joke we’d have the cap for the full thing. I was going to give a 3rd instead of a 4th but my bruins bias kicked in and cheaped out. Truthfully though, I wasn’t sure on DK value but I saw a Det fan offer him for a 2nd and 4th so I thought our crappy first would sweeten the pot and unfortunately, Craig smith sucks…

Because I can't read and thought the 1st said 2025, that's why, haha

I retract my objection.

Kubalik for a low 1st or a high 2nd is good. 1 million in cap next year is not good. Make the 4th a 3rd for the retention. It's not about the money retained, but the fact that one of the retention slots will be taken next year. Hopefully Detroit won't be in a position of having to retain next year, but retention isn't just for bottom feeders...it can be used creatively to say, retain on a bottom 6 player in a UFA situation in order to get a equal or better player and/or additional assets.

But you think Demko is one of the 10 best goalies in the league.

Waste of a 1st round pick imo. Would rather keep the 1st even though it will be late, but it's a deep draft and the prospect pool isn't great.

Talent-wise, absolutely. I think he has the capability of being the best goalie in the league. He busted my parlay this year, I took McDavid for the Hart, Beniers for Calder, Elias Lindholm for Selke & Demko for the Vezina 🥴 but in fairness, Lindholm may not come thru with the Selke - Really thought he’d take it down this year.

Zboril is a fringe NHLer, and the Canucks don’t need any more LHD. He adds no value to the trade for the Canucks

Yeah, I'd keep him (JZ) in BOS tbh (25yrs old signed thru the end of 2024.
He's "fringe" cause of the D-depth BOS dresses per game.

When he does get a turn w/ the big-club he's been OK - it's a long road but that's the defensive-entry into the NHL...
For next yr his services may be very impt given the CAP crunch BOS will be in YTD.

Take out the retention and smith on that trade and Detroit will take it. Retention and/or smith will cost more.
