If FLAs pick is between 8-10, would you trade Askarov for it and the possibility to get a top forward prospect which you need more than a young G at this point (with how good and young Saros is)?

Don’t have to be a preds fan to answer that’s a no, askarov is a developed top flight goalie prospect starting his pro career in NA

His adjustment time in NA aligns perfectly with saros contract term.

Trading him for some magical beans hoping you get as good as a prospect as he is is just silly, you would have to make it really worth the preds for them to consider it

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Why gamble when you know you likely already have a winner in Askarov

Preds are set up perfectly to transition from saros to askarov having an elite starter in the league for another decade.

You don’t mess with that franchise plan on the hopes you find more offense (realistically don’t see that player in the nhl at an impactful level for 2-3 years if at all)

2016: Jesse Puljujarvi, 4th overall
2019: Alex Turcotte, 5th overall
2018: Filip Zadina, 6th overall
2017: Lias Andersson, 7th overall
2016: Alex Nylander, 8th overall
2018: Vitali Kravtsov, 9th overall
"Gamble" is the operative word.

I can understand why the Preds don't do the deal, but I don't think the Habs should either. There are plenty of UFA goalies this summer, and even if some are short term, I think it's better to keep the 8th overall.
Consider some of the defensive play by the Habs this season, maybe goaltending isn't their biggest issue.
