Realistic Horvat Trade

Created by: rednwhite
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2023
Published: Jan. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I used the Fiala trade from last year as a benchmark for this deal. There are some minor differences but between the two players but overall I would say they are comparable. Fiala is probably a bit better offensively but there is a premium on big Centers like Horvat.

Fiala fetched a return of the 19 OV and Brock Faber (2nd Round Pick). Detroit's offer is similar because the 2024 1st rounder is likely to be in the 10-20 range and Wallinder was the 32 OV pick in 2020. This offer is contingent on Horvat resigning with Detroit on an 8x8 deal.

I don't see any team paying the premium price that Canucks fans are looking for of multiple 1sts and high end prospects.

Rasmussen/Veleno+Zadina+Wallinder+2024 1st round pick, That's the best Vancouver will get from Detroit. JR mentioned reclamation projects hence Filip Zadina who he feels he can turn into a better player.

Maybe because it's not a 2023 1st but value is definitely there

Find me a better realistic offer. Better off getting two good pieces for him then letting him walk for nothing.

That feels like way to much to me to be honest. I am fine moving Zadina but not a fan of getting rid of Ras or Veleno. Both guys are finally starting to look like real good pieces.

JR wants a roster player, That would be Zadina. Plus a player coming off of his ELC hence Joe Veleno and a highend prospect William Wallinder fits that description and a 1st. But iagree it's overpayment and i really don't want to move either Rasmussen or Veleno either. Just need to get Larks resigned and stay the course.

Why wouldn't Detroit just wait a couple months and sign him as a UFA?

If he goes to Free Agency there is a good chance he signs elsewhere. Detroit would only make the deal if he agreed to an extension before hand.

I would say Detroit dodges a bullet then

If your signing him to an extension as part of the trade it's gonna cost more, at least other teams would offer more than that. Also, i'd love to see Horvat in Detroit as opposed to some other teams that are rumoured to be interested

Price will be higher than this, and will almost definitely include this year's 1st.

Bottom line, not worth it.

I think it will be more. Again, if players like Chariot (1st, 4th, Smilanic), Giroux (Tippett, 1st and 3rd), Hagel (2 1sts), Jankrok (2nd and 3rd) and I know there were some other add ons to these trades.
It's not a bad trade but Detroit will have to add more. I think its closer to this....

1st, 2nd, Rasmussen and Wallinder
for
Horvat

Those picks your listing are all late 1sts. Detroit's pick is likely in the middle of the first round in 2024.

I agree but Horvat is also better than all those other player. I think it will take 3 pieces IMO. Who knows.
Maybe a 1st, 2nd and Wallinder. You may need to put Pius Suter in for cap reasons.

I think Horvat is perfect for Detroit

How about Van gives us Horvat and Detroit takes JT Miller off your hands for "future considerations?" smile

Works for me, Rick Dhaliwal mentioned that Vancouver was willing to move a cap dump with Horvat. And Millers contract definitely is heading in cap dump territory.

Look at the standings. I am sure Fla would want to have that 1st back lol.

Forsure, but at the time of the trade Montreal was likely projecting it to be a late 1st. That's always the risk of trading future 1sts.
